Postal Service and Common Sense

The Post Office needs common sense so chip in with ideas on how they can improve things.

If you are like me, you immediately said to yourself after reading the title that one of these things has nothing to do with the other. You are absolutely right.

Our postal service that used to deliver mail twice a day for three cents has lost its efficiency and its mind. They just asked Congress to approve closing several distribution centers and over 3000 post offices because they can't make money.

This same post office stayed open late on Tax Day so that procrastinators could mail their tax returns at 11:59 p.m. This meant thousands of employees across the nation got paid overtime. Now, you and I know that if you have a budget problem and can't show a profit, you don't pay overtime. The additional utilities alone probably made it a money-losing proposition.

So, their solution to their budget problem is to close offices and make their business less accessible to their customers. As for stopping Saturday delivery, I don't know why they bother to bring me those two pieces of junk mail every Saturday anyway. I can't remember the last time I got meaningful mail in my box on Saturday.

I would love to tell them how to make their offices more competitive but they don't seem to want my advise. Maybe if we can get enough ideas posted here on Patch, someone will see the feedback and actually do something.
