The old building that was once Flanigan’s stands vacant on Lawrenceville Highway, the tall sign at the street reading, “Open Soon,” as it has for months. It would seem nothing has changed for quite a while.
Under the surface, however, a quiet battle has played out. Applications were made for permits that would allow “adult entertainment” and late-night alcohol pouring. Neighboring business noticed building and furniture changes. It appeared a strip club was moving into Tucker.
The adult entertainment permit was ultimately denied, but changes to the establishment inconsistent with its approved use continued to be observed. The neighboring business owners turned to the Tucker Civic Association and Main Street Tucker Alliance to take up their cause.

Bruce Penn, chairman of the Tucker Civic Association’s Proactive Planning, Land Use and Zoning Committee, was involved in several meetings with DeKalb County. Penn reports that the county has now revoked all permits at the site, including the certificate of occupancy, and that no further permits will be issued at this time.
It would appear, for now, that the “Open Soon” sign will continue to loom over the property along with the mystery of what comes next for this location.
