Man Shot in the Head Wonders Why

Pedestrian survives gunshots from a passing car.

A man who was shot in the head while walking on Lawrenceville Highway told police he has no idea who might want to harm him.

Elvion Finney, a Stone Mountain resident who is also known as Li'l El, was taken to Eastside Medical Center on June 23 bleeding from his head and from his left hand after being fired upon "three or four times" from a passing car, according to a police report.

Finney was walking from the Checkers Restaurant at 6344 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker to the Somerset Crossings apartment complex, at 100 Summerwalk Parkway, to visit a girlfriend. He told police he did not see who shot him and was unable to provide a description of the car or its occupants.

"I never come here unless it's to chill with Brittany," Finney is quoted as saying, referring to his girlfriend. He could not understand why someone would want to shoot at him or try to kill him, the report stated.

When investigators combed the area of the shooting, they were unable to find any spent shell casings or blood residue. Finney had $800 in his pocket at the time of the incident and explained to officers that he "usually carries around a large amount of cash...on a daily basis."

The investigation is continuing.
