Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy Meeting

Please accept my apologies. I really did not start a blog to rant and rail against the school system or any of its employees.

I attended this evening's meeting regarding the Policy Revision for Title 1 Parent Involvement.

The policy in front of me has several typos, run-on sentences and sentence fragments, and generally needed to be proofread before presenting to the public.

There are ten things the policy says the district will assist Title 1 schools by providing. Nowhere is there any mention of measuring success or accountability for delivering those things.

Several of the things are just bad ideas such as; conduct in-home conferences between parents and educators. I can not imagine how anyone from the central office is going to assist the school in doing that. Another bad idea is involving parents in the development of training for teachers, principals, and other educators. How can that be effective?

The presenter went on a tangent about how Superintendent Thurmond has "robust expectations" and is "serious about accountability." It is hard to believe those words when this policy passes as acceptable work.
