Where Will New Handy Ace Hardware Be Built?

Owner Harold Smith talks about plans to re-open.

"There's little to no chance of it being true," Handy Ace Hardware owner Harold Smith told Patch Friday.

He was responding to speculation that his store, which burnt down in December, would be re-locating to the Ingles spot on Hugh Howell Road and Lawrenceville Highway.

"I hate to tell you that there's nothing to tell you. I apologize for the vagueness. I'm looking at another option right now, but we may well end up right back where we were (on Cowan Road)," he said.

He is drawing up plans with an architect and a contractor, and will let Patch know when a firm decision is made. "Let's touch base next week," he said.

Handy Ace Hardware opened a small, temporary location across the street from the original Cowan Road location.

Whether Ingles is actually closing or not is still open to question. A call placed to their headquarters in Black Mountain, N.C. for comment was not immediately returned.
