Panel Recommends DeKalb CEO Be Suspended

Gov. Nathan Deal's panel has unanimously recommended that Burrell Ellis be suspended from office, pending his indictment.

A three-member panel appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal has recommended that DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis be suspended from office.

According to Channel 2 Action News, the panel unanimously recommended Monday afternoon that Ellis, currently under indictment by a DeKalb grand jury, be suspended.

Ellis has been indicted by a DeKalb grand jury on charges he illegally pressured contractors into giving him campaign contributions.

Gov. Deal is expected to rule on the recommendation later this week. If Ellis is suspended, the DeKalb County Commission current chairman and District 5 representative, Lee May, would be the interim CEO.
