ReplyThe DCS budget appears to be a large shell game. Given the history of surprises and hidden costs, lost $$, found $$, moving personnel, renaming personnel, wasting tons of taxpayers $$, sending principals to get the PhDs, TopHeavyCO, did I say TopHeavyCO? The New DCS Budget needs to be written so that every DC taxpayer can understand. I know you can do so in order to be 100% transparent. The kids and teachers of DCS have done without too long and taxpayers have been bamboozled long enough. Back to the drawing boards. I agree with the parent, the budget is mediocre at best and needs to be CLEAR!

On the article Uncle Maddio's Scores '75' on Restaurant Inspection

ReplyUncle Maddio's has been a dirty and poorly maintained place for a couple of years. When it opened it operated as a clean and pleasant place to go. Went there frequently. Last two years it has been aweful and we stopped going. Tried it one more time a couple of months ago, and tables were dirty, wipe cloths dirty, drink station a mess... Not surprised with a score of 75. Frankly, surprised it was that high. Question that high score.

ReplyLove the idea, love the park.
However, concerned about attracting and keeping more resident homeless already hanging out at Sage Hill/Johnson Rd/Zonolite/Creek/under bridges/Kroger dumpster diving/crime....Who will monitor that they don't set up shop even more? Crime is a constant in our corner.

ReplyDCS has been run into the ground by some of the most incompetent BOE members. The quality of the schools is vital to the health of a community. Their selfish practices, the mill$$ overspending and the cost of litigations by DCS has resulted in DC residents thinking and acting on seceding from the county and forming their own city. Having watched a well-run school system 20-30 years ago to now having SACS at their door and facing more lawsuits, I cannot blame DC residents. Enough is enough! We can't afford to continue this way, we can't wait and do nothing. Natural consequences to the HUGE DCS violations and bleeding of $$ - form our own cities! Almost no other options. DC needs to survive without everyone with options moving away.

ReplyWhen Maddio's first opened we frequented the restaurant regularly. It was clean, the servers kept the floor and tables cleared off and the staff behind the counter welcomed customers, remembered repeat visitors and overall, it was a good place to eat. Then, slowly, things got grungy, tables remained dirty, floor dirty, staff could care less about customer service and we slowly stayed away. We would forget how things had changed and returned. Not to be surprised, it was unacceptable and we have chosen to stay away. We thought that owners/managers had changed from the original crew and nothing would change.

ReplyHurting our kids in such a systematic way for so long should have been on the radar of DFACS. Neglect, abandonment, not taking care of our kids in their charge. FAPE! List is long. Jeep Hook, rush to judgement is not the term one could ever use with this BOE and its mess. It has hurt our kids in poverty the most. Parents with financial options, exercised their rights. Kids left are sped, ELL and kids in poverty, along with some middle class kids. Damage beyond repair, thanks to the BOE.

ReplyDr. Walker,
You and some of your BOE members literally destroyed a once thriving school system. Outrageous and inexcusable. You should have realized when you first ran for BOE that you did not have the skill. Then again, when you made a huge mess of DCS, you should have realized that you were in over your head. Oh, no! You continued on to show everyone that quality, competence, intellect, staying awake, doing your job, representing all of DC....none of this mattered to you. Then, you had the gall to scream racism, hiding behind religion, and dared GA to oust you. Wasting some more Mill$$. You are not able to answer any questions related to students, achievement, how many legal teams employed, books, all matters related to education. You have killed DCS and DC. I fault you for the political fall-out for dismanteling DC. The decent BOE members, who stayed awake and tried to make sense out of your p**s poor leadership, should have revolted publicly, exposing all this mess each and every time. They did try to fight it, but not violently enough. Now, they are going to be ousted along with you. Please go away and reflect on your legacy. Lots to do. Get packing, and thanks for nothing. You have hurt thousands of children, impacting them forever. You have destroyed the reputation of DC and hurt us all. Criminal! -

On the article POLL: Would a City of Lakeside Be Too White?

ReplyAdvice taken. However, the details have been common knowledge for everyone within a 3000 mi radius and beyond. Their acts have been carved into granite, marble, written on parchment, rice paper, iCloud, translated into 60+ languages, etc. Sweeping statements? The details are also too long and will take up everyone's GB.
Lakeside would still be part of DCS, but at least they are getting off their behinds and are doing SOMETHING. Thanks for your help.

Reviewing the health report, it is totally unexceptable to have a restaurant with such a low score in the most critical areas of cleanliness. Especially, right across from CDC. Will not eat there again, even if score improves. They should ALWAYS be spotless when serving the public.
