Staff at Midvale Elementary show their appreciation after a visit from the Tigers last week.
Coach, Winning the state Football Championship is awesome but today at Midvale we saw true champions when we were visited by members of the Tucker Tigers football team. We have had five of your seniors, Gabe, Justin, Terrell, Robert and Brenden coming to the school each Thursday morning to mentor some of our little boys. The impact on the little boys will make a difference for the rest of their lives. This afternoon, those players brought the other players, some cheerleaders, and Tuc the Tiger to Midvale. They came with a play in mind. Four of the little boys are members of the same family that has some real needs. The players brought gifts that they knew the little boys would love. We could tell this when the players were helping them put…

Tigers kick off holiday giving and receiving.
For Tucker’s football players, the last day of their first semester of school shared a common element with the rest of DeKalb County’s high school students: final exams. As most students were preparing to relax, however, the players were just getting started on their eventful Friday. On a day when the Tigers picked up their championship t-shirts commemorating the school’s first undefeated football season, the players took some time to give to their community and finished the night receiving another piece of hardware to accompany the title trophy. Before the school day was over, the players piled into a caravan and headed to Midvale Elementary, loaded down with toys. Waiting at Midvale were counselor Adrienne Griffin and parent Sasha Hayes…

Some have pondered aloud whether Friday night’s AAAA semifinal between Tucker and Northside (Warner Robins) should be considered the “real” State Championship. The victor of the Lovejoy-Warner Robins game will be all too happy to dispel this notion when they get their chance next week; nevertheless, the Tigers’ collision with the Eagles this week has all the makings of a dream final. Tucker enters the game at 13-0 and ranked No. 1 in AAAA, while Northside shares the 13-0 record …

Tigers go on the road to No. 2 Northside at Warner Robins.
The game many people were looking forward to has come to be as the No. 1 ranked Tucker Tigers travel to Warner Robins to take on the No. 2 ranked Northside Eagles on Friday night at 7:30 in the Class AAAA high school state semifinals. Tucker (13-0) survived a tough test last week in rallying from a 14-0 deficit and holding on to defeat the Flowery Branch Falcons 42-34 in the state quarterfinals. The Tigers were led by quarterback Juwaan Williams three rushing touchdowns and the running back duo of Jordan Landry (13 carries, 131 yards, 1 TD) and Yusuf Minor (12 carries, 100 yards, 1 TD). The Tiger defense which gave up 141 yards rushing in the first half held the Falcons to just 32 yards on the ground in the second half and came up with …

Tigers punch ticket to State semifinals.
Even after taking down Flowery Branch QB Kanler Coker and forcing a wild throw on fourth down with the game on the line, Josh Dawson made absolutely sure the ball had fallen incomplete before he began his celebration. Indeed, Coker was turning impossible plays into first downs at such a rate that everyone in the stadium waited for the ball to hit the ground before exhaling. One final miracle was not in the cards, and Flowery Branch (11-2) watched helplessly as Tucker (13-0) ran the final 1:58 off the clock to preserve the 42-34 win in front of a packed house at Adams Stadium Friday night. Coker put on a clinic at the quarterback position all night, throwing for 340 yards with two touchdowns, and making game-changing plays nearly every time…

Tucker (12-0) hosts Flowery Branch Friday at Adams Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Class AAAA football playoffs.
If you like to see points scored, you’re going to love Friday’s Class AAAA football quarterfinal at Adams Stadium. But you probably already knew that, especially when the Tucker Tigers play a home game at the north DeKalb County stadium. The top-ranked Tigers average nearly 48 points per game, including last week’s 46-0 win over Griffin at Adams. They haven’t been seriously challenged in a game in more than two months (a 15-11 win over Marist on Sept. 2), and they’ve scored 50 points or more SEVEN times. Things could be different this week in a Class AAAA quarterfinal Friday when Flowery Branch (11-1) comes to town with an offense that scores 46 points per game. While the Tigers do their scoring with a multi-threat rushing attack (Dallas …

Tigers earn first shutout in second-round win; advance to Class AAAA quarterfinals.
Tucker earned its first shutout of the season Friday night at Adams Stadium, defeating the visiting Griffin Bears 46-0 in a Class AAAA playoff game that was never in question. The game came unwound quickly for Griffin, which turned over the opening kickoff on its own 22. Dallas Rivers finished the short Tucker drive with a four-yard touchdown run, and there was no looking back from there. Tucker's defense gave up zero net yards rushing and never looked uncomfortable with any play the Bears ran. Deitrick Dukes picked up two sacks in under 30 seconds during the second quarter. Marqeeye Biggs and Jordan Landry each recorded an interception. Solomon Jackson, Joe Rush and Justin Rivers spent a significant amount of time in the Bears' backfield…

Having observed from the sidelines (figuratively and literally) since July, I can say the Tucker High football program is representing this community very well. As we come to expect less and less from professional and even collegiate athletes these days, the Tucker Tigers exemplify what student-athletes should be. It speaks volumes about Coach Stephens and these players' parents.   more ›
