Tucker Man Wins Lottery

Fekadu Lola won half a million dollars on a scratch-off game.

A Tucker resident stopped off at a convenience store to pick something up and walked out a wealthy man. Fekadu Lola, 51, won $500,000 on the Georgia Lottery’s Cash Deluxe instant scratch-off game last week. The ticket was bought at a Chevron Food Mart on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta, and Lola claimed his prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

Mega Millions Fever: Are We 'Suckers' for the Lottery?

One report says the Peach State spent $3.4 billion on lottery tickets last year.

OK, admit it. Many of us have dreamed of what we would do if we ever hit the lottery. And with the Mega Millions jackpot expected to be more than $500 million — yes, a HALF-BILLION dollars — for Friday's drawing (a U.S. lottery record!), there's likely a whole lot of dreaming going on this week. You can expect long lines at lottery outlets today and tomorrow, especially in Georgia and here in Tucker. But are we suckers for the lottery? One reports suggests that Georgians may be the biggest suckers in the U.S. for playing the lottery. Bloomberg looked at the lottery-spending habits across the country to establish its "Sucker Index," which correlated lottery expenditures, actual winnings and overall income. $500,000 Winning Lottery Ticket Sold in Tucker

Winner of Georgia Lottery instant game World Poker Tour intends to buy a new truck and do something special for his wife.

Larry Lucas, a retiree in Stone Mountain, won $500,000 playing the Georgia Lottery instant game World Poker Tour, the Georgia Lottery announced Wednesday. “I couldn’t believe it,” Lucas said in the release. “It was just unreal.” He purchased his ticket at Happy Food Mart at 2199 Idlewood Road in Tucker. Lucas, who is married with three children and four grandchildren, will use the money to buy a new truck and pay bills and do something special for his wife, according to the release. “We’ve never been on a honeymoon, so this may be a good time,” he said.
