House Republicans have stalled every attempt to address our underfunded obligations.
After briefly slipping of the “fiscal cliff” earlier this week, you’d think Congress would be ready to come to terms with the fact that we have got to do something about our unfunded obligations on our debt. House Republicans, many of whom answer to gerrymandered districts, have stalled and hawed against every attempt by both moderate Republicans and Democrats to address our underfunded obligations. This weekend saw the House do the same 11th hour “deal” that solves nothing and sets the stage for an 11th hour deal on the debt ceiling. That will repeat the cycle of politicians being unwilling to address the serious issues facing our economy. The Bush tax cuts have been largely preserved for 98% of Americans. Tax holidays such as the Social…

Local representative issues statement on passage of the bill.
Democrat Hank Johnson, whose Fourth Congressional District includes parts of Tucker, released the following statement Tuesday evening after voting on H.R. 8 – the American Taxpayer Relief Act – to avoid the fiscal cliff. The House voted 257 to 167 to pass the legislation: “I voted to pass the American Taxpayer Relief Act because avoiding the fiscal cliff removes a massive barrier to continued growth of the American economy. The bill protects the middle class – providing permanent tax relief, while restoring equity in the tax code by requiring that the wealthy pay their fair share. The bill extends unemployment benefits for two million Americans. It extends the earned income tax credit, the child tax credit and the college tax credit for …

The two companies have joined forces to urge Congress to “Come Together” before tax hikes and spending cuts push America over the “fiscal cliff.”
On any given day, Tucker and Washington, D.C., might seem like they’re a million miles apart. Today is not one of those days. As Congress and President Barack Obama attempt to hash out differences to stop America from falling over the “Fiscal Cliff,” Patch and Starbucks are teaming up to urge Republicans and Democrats to “come together.” The two companies are working together to make sure Congress gets the message America wants a viable solution to the country’s financial woes. The so-called Fiscal Cliff encompasses all of the budget cuts and tax hikes that will automatically kick in if Congress doesn’t take action before Jan. 1, 2013. Some economists say the automatic changes will push the country into another recession. The White House …

We’d like to hear from you on how the possible tax hikes would impact your family right here in Tucker.
With New Year’s just around the corner, all eyes are turning to Washington, D.C., where lawmakers are working to prevent America from falling off the so-called fiscal cliff. That cliff, according to the Huffington Post, is the automatic activation of budget cuts and tax hikes that will kick in on Jan. 1, 2013, if something isn’t done to prevent them. As it stands right now, no agreement has been reached between the Democrats and Republicans to prevent the financial changes from occurring. Some economists say the budget cuts and tax hikes will catapult America back into another recession. President Barack Obama is cutting his holiday vacation short, according to the Post, and is returning to Washington to try and work out a deal. …

The exaggeration and hyperbole involved in the fiscal cliff discussion is unhelpful.
Well, the end is upon us. The date long prophesized grows near and everyone is prepared for the end times. Or at least, that is what CNN and the History Channel would have you believe. Mayan Apocalypse and Fiscal Cliff seem to fit basically the same script on most networks right now, to the point where programming is interchangeable. Just choose your own disaster! In reality, the world isn’t going to end on the 21st of December and America will not fade into nothingness if we decide to plunge off the year-ending cliff/slope/your favorite terrain feature! Making this sound like the end of the world might be good for ratings but it’s bad for educating people about what hitting the fiscal cliff really would entail. The exaggeration and …

JP... This Statement listed obove is the press release from the office of Johnson and is not what he actually said... What he said was in parallel in common sense to what was spewed about Guam. He made absolutley no sense again. It was a joke of a response and in laymen terms, Is uneducated, uninformed and I would ask him to take a couple pointers from Mr. "o" and spend some of the tax payers …   more ›
