Citizen Academy Launches in Tucker

Tucker Civic Association's new plan for a lifelong community kicks off Tuesday.

Join the Tucker Civic Association for a Citizen Academy presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Tucker High Auditorium. The Atlanta Regional Commission has partnered with Tucker Civic to bring in a panel of experts for an exciting and informative “classroom” session. You will learn... "If someone hadn't pointed out to me how difficult it is to cross streets or get services for an older person, I wouldn't have seen it," TCA President Leslie Richardson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Citizen Police Academy Graduation Wednesday

Forty-five community members to receive honor.

The DeKalb County Police Department will recognize its recent graduates of the Citizen Police Academy during a graduation ceremony. Forty-five participants will be presented certificates for completing the free 11-week course, which was conducted at police headqurters in Tucker.  The ceremony is tonight, Wednesday, August 29 at 7 p.m. at the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur. During the program, officers from various units provided citizen academy attendees an inside perspective about the complexities and operational structure of the Department. Instruction included presentations and demonstrations from Uniform Patrol, Special Operations and Criminal Investigation Divisions.  It’s the aim of the program to assist in …

DeKalb Police Taking Citizen Academy Applications

The free course gives citizens an insider’s view of law enforcement.

The Citizen Academy of the DeKalb County Police Department is seeking applicants to fill its course in May, according to a statement released yesterday. The Academy is a 10 week course, free to the public, that allows the community to gain an inside perspective of law enforcement. The sessions consist of lectures and demonstrations given by patrol officers and detectives that teach participants about the complexities and operational structure of their units. The purpose is to give citizens an insider’s view of law enforcement and help build stronger relationships between the community and the police. Participants must consent to a background check and have no prior felony convictions. They must either live or work in DeKalb County and be …
