Las Colinas Restaurant Spicing Up Tucker

The new Las Colinas Mexican Grill on Main Street is already developing a loyal fan base.

Tucker is spicing up its local cuisine with the fresh arrival of Las Colinas. Located on Main Street, Las Colinas is a Tex-Mex fusion that will excite your taste buds and leave you wanting more. “It's Mexican food, but at the same time we try to incorporate things so that it is Americanized,” said Juan Ramirez, General Manager at Las Colinas. “We can't have too many spices. We have a lot of Anglo people that aren't used to it. But at the same time, we have the Mexican taste to it – so it is Tex-Mex.” Native to Georgia, Las Colinas has graced the Lithonia area for twenty-three years before deciding to take on the challenge of expansion to Tucker. “It's a family owned restaurant. Las Colinas has been around... [s]ince 1989. I think it was …

The 1st time we tired Los Colinas it was great. The 2nd time not as tasty and the 3rd worse. These were all lunches so don't know if it made that big of difference over their dinners.   more ›

What Should Go Here?

Willie Bee's is now vacant. Any ideas for a replacement?

Willie Bee's Restaurant is no more. The locale at 1949 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Tucker is vacant and the phone has been disconnected. Even the parking lot is roped off. The sign says 'Open Seven Days' but it isn't... Who or what do you think should move into this spot? Tell us in the comments below-

Coming to Tucker: Papi's Cuban & Caribbean Grill

Do you see a trend here? Another hot restaurant will open in town soon.

The award-winning Papi's Cuban & Caribbean Grill is branching out and will soon have a new spot in Tucker. Papi's has won awards from the likes of Creative Loafing, Access Atlanta, City Search and our own Patch in Kennesaw, where one of the four in Metro Atlanta is located. The others are in Midtown, Stockbridge, and Lawrenceville. The local branch will be in Cofer Crossing, in a place long since vacated by a Mexican restaurant. Another Cuban restaurant opened here quietly a few weeks ago, this one in the Northlake Festival area, at 4073 LaVista Road. It's called Coco Cabana and Patch will have a review shortly. The Greater Good Barbecue and Las Colinas both opened here in recent months as well, signifying a trend of interesting eateries …

Lavoe, I speak for all Tucker residents when I ask you to move to Cartersville, or Blairsville, or somewhere more suited to your underdeveloped, Marlborough-tinted mind. Please, let me know if I can help you pack your guns, NASCAR jacket, and Ol' Yeller, and haul all those treasures up to the cabin, ok? Seriously, friend...Your beloved Tucker of yesteryear is indeed in it's final death throes, …   more ›

Bites Nearby: Barlow's Bar & Grill

Patch's weekly look at a nearby restaurant that you might want to check out.

Let's get this clear right off the bat. There's nothing fancy about this place. Not that it's a dive, either. This space on Mountain Industrial Boulevard used to be a Taco Mac and the decor may not have changed much since then, but the food certainly has. More on that momentarily.  They have poker night, bingo night, pool tables and so forth. The music is pretty loud. Lots of television screens, all tuned to sports channels. But you can bring your children here - and people do. There's a large non-smoking section away from the bar and the noise that is family friendly. This is what I would recommend if you're bringing the little ones. The kids' menu has what you might expect. They can partake of mini corn dogs, grilled cheese, or a …

This place looks like a far cry from the rat-hole that the Taco Mac was. I'm interested to try them out.   more ›

Bites Nearby: Shorty's Pizza

Our weekly look at a local restaurant worth trying.

First of all, Shorty's Pizza is not your everyday, run-of-the-mill pizza joint. There's a somewhat different vibe here. Besides, there are other things on the menu. But more on that later. So let's talk about the pizza first. A huge open brick oven, of Italian origin and fired by wood, greets you off to the left of the full bar as you walk in. The pies that get shoved in said oven at frequent intervals are skinny, crispy and very tasty, and, for whatever reason, are named after famous musicians.  The deal is, they come with toppings that somehow relate to the persona in question. To wit: the Peter Tosh has jerked pork tenderloin, pineapple and red peppers. Fair enough. The Ravi Shankar is replete with curry oil, roasted vegetables, and a …
