Students Arrested in High School Cafeteria Fight

Charges are pending against two ninth-graders.

A lunchtime brawl between two students at Tucker High School left a trail of blood in the cafeteria as both ninth-graders were taken away by police. The melee occurred late Thursday morning, according to a THS parent who did not wish to be identified. "Two students got into a fist fight, there was bleeding, police were called and both were put in handcuffs, arrested and left in police cars," the parent told Patch. "It was quite a bloody mess, according to a student who has the same lunch period," she said, adding that the cause of the fight is not known. A similar incident at the school last September left a teacher with a broken leg.  "Apparently the fighting is more frequent than we're aware of," she said. "They have the principal and …

Family Dollar Robbed at Gunpoint

The incident occurred Monday morning.

A man robbed a Family Dollar store in Tucker at gunpoint Monday morning, DeKalb County police said. A witness told police she was waiting in line at the Brockett Square location to buy something when she saw the suspect pull out a black gun, point it at the cashier and demand the store's cash at about 11:15 a.m., the police report said. The cashier backed up and said she couldn't open the register, so the witness told the suspect to calm down and she would open it for him. She opened the register, placed the till on the counter and the suspect emptied it, taking $100. He fled the store toward Brockett Road. The suspect was described as a black male about 5 feet 10 inches, 150-165 pounds with a slim build. He wore a red Atlanta Falcons hat…

I 'Buy' Ugly Houses (and Rent Them as Slum Property)

Beware, there's a scam going on in Tucker neighborhoods.

By Chris Wood I’m sure you’ve seen the hand posted, sharpie scribbled signs on telephone poles. They say “I Buy Houses” or “No Credit, Foreclosures OK.” They also might say “Easy Terms, No Money Down!” or a variation on the concept. It’s attractive, seems easy, and a quick solution to a distressed homeowners situation. But not so quick. “Crystal & Kevin” (not their real names) are a couple who have found a clever way here in Tucker and nearby Stone Mountain to target potential victims. Well known and much liked, long time Tucker resident and senior citizen “Della” had lost her job and was concerned that she would lose her house. She felt alone and worried, discreetly sharing her fears with her neighbor across the street. One day Crystal …

Tucker Teacher Sentenced to 30 Years for Sex Crimes

Almarcus Thomas will spend two thirds of his sentence in custody.

Almarcus Dewayne Thomas, the Tucker math teacher convicted of multiple sex crimes, was sentenced this week to 30 years, 20 of which he will spend behind bars. Thomas, 43, was arrested a year ago after the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit investigated him for alleged sexual activity with a 15-year-old female student at Tucker Middle School.  He pleaded guilty to multiple counts, including child molestation, statutory rape, sexual battery and invasion of privacy. "These alleged crimes involve a man who preyed on a minor while in a position of authority and respect as an educator," DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said in a statement. "This plea reflects the acts of a monster who molested, abuse and took advantage of …

Report: Tucker Man Helps Steal $65,000 of Chicken Wings

Two employees of Nordic Cold Storage are accused of stealing the frozen goods.

Two men have been arrested in connection with stealing $65,000 worth of frozen chicken wings in Gwinnett County, according to police. Renaldo Jackson, of Tucker, and Dewayne Patterson, of Lithonia, were both employees of Nordic Cold Storage off Pleasantdale Road in nearby Doraville, from where the chicken was reportedly taken. Earlier this month, the manager of Nordic reported to police that she saw surveillance tape of Patterson, Jackson and an unknown man backing up an Enterprise truck to one of the company's bay doors. They loaded 10 pallets Tyson frozen chicken wings onto the truck, according to the Gwinnett Police report. The two men were arrested Jan. 23 on charges of theft by taking and released the same day on a $2,950 bond each. …

Car Chase Leads To Crash, Drug Arrest

Pot, cocaine, and Hydrocodone found in fleeing man's vehicle.

A man was taken into custody after leading police on a chase through Tucker that ended in a wreck. DeKalb officers in a patrol unit near Peters Park observed two cars blocking a street and "impeding the flow of traffic," according to an incident report dated Jan. 8, which stated that the park is "a well known area for major narcotics violations."    Both cars sped away as the police got closer, and a pursuit began of one of them, a black Dodge Charger. The chase continued down Elmdale Drive to Fellowship Road, crossing Idlewood Road "through the red light without stopping."  The Dodge turned left on Smithfield Drive, right on Brownlee Drive and then right on Brockett Road, crashing and flipping over into a ditch at the corner of Pine …

Liquor Store Shopper Gets Carjacked

Young Hispanic male flashed a knife and took a car.

A man who stopped at a Tucker liquor store had his car taken from him at knife-point. Floy Smith, of Doraville, told police he pulled up in front of Happy's Package Store and as he got out of his car, a man holding a cigarette asked him for a light. "Mr. Smith stated he leaned back into the vehicle through the open door to retrieve a lighter," a DeKalb Police incident report revealed. As he did so, he observed the man standing directly behind him opening a 'butterfly style knife' and stated the suspect pointed the knife at him. The suspect entered the vehicle, which still had the keys in the ignition, and sped away traveling west on Pleasantdale Road. The vehicle is a gray 2001 Toyota Camry with Georgia tag number AFU9198. Weird Police News: Satan Apprehended, Woman Bites Man

Here's what police officers around Northeast Georgia were up against recently.

Click on the links below for more information- A raw deal: A Norcross man told police that his iPhone was stolen while he was dealing a hand of poker at Stars and Strikes in Dacula. When he looked away from the table, he saw the phone was gone. But he’s pretty sure he knows who swiped it. Someone tried to sell the phone to one of the man’s friends, saying he found it at Stars and Stripes. Woman bites man: A Tucker-area woman suspected of injecting the drug oxycodone argued with her husband while he drove, so she bit him on the arm. When he jerked his arm away, the force yanked out one of her teeth. She was found with syringes and hypodermic needles, and told police she was an addict. Littering, the gateway crime: A Gwinnett County Police …
