Tucker Lifelong Community Begins Thursday

Join Tucker Civic Association for the first Tucker Lifelong Community educational program.

By Beth White Ganga Please join Tucker Civic Association (TCA) on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Tucker First Baptist Church for the first in a series of Tucker Lifelong Community (TLC) educational programs. Each of the monthly sessions will feature two speakers representing local services, businesses or organizations. The purpose of these programs is to offer Tucker residents a chance to “get to know” some of the great opportunities and resources in our community that they might not be aware of. The speakers for the first meeting are William Smith, Director of the Tucker Recreation Center, and Dawn Hines, Master Gardener. Smith will be discussing the activities and programs (for all ages) that the center offers. He will be bringing …

Arbor Day at Trees of Tucker

The Arbor Day celebration honored the LaVista Lions Club.

Georgia Master Gardeners of DeKalb and guests celebrated Georgia Arbor Day, Feb. 15, at the Trees of Tucker Urban Forest located at 4898 LaVista Road.  Special guests included members of the LaVista Lions Club, Pastor Jimmy Moor of Tucker First United Methodist Church and Gary Peiffer of DeKalb's Extension Horticultural Program. The Arbor Day celebration honored the LaVista Lions Club which donated three Chionanthus Virginicus [Grancy Gray-Beard] to the site. These trees are small native trees that can grow to 30’ tall. Their white flowers appear in April and the bluish-black fruit of the female tree is a source of food for wildlife. Also honored was Chris Taras of Taras Landscape Consulting for his continued support and contributions.  …

Arbor Day Event Set for Tucker

Tree dedication takes place on Feb. 15.

The Georgia Master Gardeners of DeKalb invite you to attend a Georgia Arbor Day Event at the Trees of Tucker, an educational urban forest located at the Tucker Recreation Center.   This event will recognize donors of our newly planted trees.   Date: Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 Time: 3:30 p.m. Place: Rear parking lot of the Tucker Recreation Center at 4898 LaVista Road Hosts: Dawn Hines and Lee Leach, Co-Site Leaders, Trees of Tucker There will be refreshments.
