Panthersville Stadium hosts the county events starting at 10 a.m.
The 2013 DeKalb County Middle School Track Championships begin on Saturday, March 9 at Panthersville Stadium with the field events at 10 a.m. The girls' 1600 meter run finals start at 12 noon and preliminaries for all runnings events follow directly afterwards. The boys' 1600 meter run finals follow the sprint medley relay prelims. The track finals are set for Monday, March 11 at 5 p.m. with the spring medley relay kicking off the final day. Ensembles from both Tucker Middle and Tucker High ranked high this week after state presentations.

By Marsha Ashby Orchestras from Tucker Middle School and Tucker High School performed this week for the Georgia Music Educators Association in their annual Large Group Performance Evaluation, and both earned the highest ratings of 'Superior' in their concert presentation and sight-reading assessments. The four members of the adjudication panel provided feedback on student and group performance. The comments recorded regarding student strengths and weaknesses are useful when planning for continued individual student and ensemble development. Is your child a musician? A quick look at recent Dean's List recipients.
The following students, all residents of Tucker, were honored recently by their colleges, according to ReadMedia Newswire: Cailey Forstall was among over 1900 students from Wake Forest University who made the Fall 2012 Dean's List. Five locals get recognized at VSU.
Valdosta State University has announced the names of students from Tucker who met all qualifications for graduation in Fall 2012. They are: Kathryn Huitt Vernon, Master of Science, Biology Lamone S Graham, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Speech Communication Raina Jessine Mitchell, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Dance Scott Perry Pieper, Master of Library & Information Science Additionally, VSU announced that Emma Patricia Carey of Tucker earned the academic status of Dean's List. Nine local students earned distinction at the institute.
The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to several students from Tucker during the 244th commencement exercises. Neha Kumar received a BS in Psychology. Nelson Magdaleno received a BS in Computer Engineering. Hiep Nguyen received a BS in Electrical Engineering. Mary Nguyen-Choi received a MBA-Management. Khin Nwe received a MBA-Management of Technology. David Richardson received a MS in Electrical and Computer. Irfan Somani received a MS in Computer Science. Jamie Raines is on the President's List.
Jamie Elizabeth Raines of Tucker, majoring in Marketing at Clemson University in South Carolina, has been named to the President's List for last semester. To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a 4.0 grade-point average. Raines completed a Study Abroad program in Italy in the fall of 2011.

The following students, all of whom come from Tucker, were recently honored for their college achievements, according to ReadMedia Newswire. Named to Oglethorpe University's Dean's List for the Spring 2012 semester were Eleanor Burden, an English major, Ariana McClellan, a psychology major, and Sheeba Sajja, a mathematics major. Mary Kelly and Ian Nickle were named to the Honor List of Oxford College, the two-year liberal arts division of Emory University located in Oxford, Ga., for the 2012 spring semester. Mike Weaver received a bachelor of science degree in physics at the 189th commencement ceremony at Centre College held on May 20, 2012 in Danville, KY. Weaver is the son of Sandra Weaver of Tucker and Norman Weaver of Norcross. The following students, Camille Johnson and Christopher Long, have earned the distinction of Dean's List at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta for spring semester 2012. Jill Rahnert has earned a degree in Applied Physiology, also from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
