There will be a public meeting today (Jan. 15) at 5 p.m. to discuss the proposed overlay district.
The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) wants to keep adult entertainment businesses, which have been inquiring about setting up in the area, out of its boundaries. There will be a public meeting tonight at Eagle Rock Distributing, 1375 Beverage Dr. in Stone Mountain, at 5 p.m. to discuss the CID’s effort to create an overlay district that would prohibit those those types of businesses in the area, which goes along Mountain Industrial Boulevard roughly from Hugh Howell in Tucker up to about Lawrenceville Highway. The former Baranco car dealership is undergoing a major renovation to make way for Hyundai.
Hyundai is moving into the former Baranco car dealership at 4355 U.S. 78/Stone Mountain Highway. According to Jim Brooks, executive director of the Evermore Community Improvement District (CID), the new car dealer will be moving in near the end of the year - maybe sooner. Brooks told Patch in July that Baranco was in negotiations with another new car dealership for the facility, which is near Ross Road in Lilburn. More recently, he said the space in is undergoing a major renovation which will bring the building up to Hyundai's new dealership standards. The Community Improvement District has added about two more miles to its corridor.
The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) has grown. The CID - industrial and commercial property owners within a specific area who have agreed to increase their own taxes to pay for various improvements in that corridor - recently received county approval to expand up to the Gwinnett County line, said the district's president, Emory Morsberger. Before the expansion, the district's area included Mountain Industrial Boulevard roughly from Hugh Howell Road in Tucker to East Ponce de Leon and all side streets within that corridor.
