Portions of north and central Georgia may see flurries, sleet or snow this weekend and freezing temps through Sunday night.
Portions of north and central Georgia could see some snow flurries or a wintry mix as temps drop headed into the weekend. Overnight freezing temps are expected through Sunday night, and Friday night and Saturday hold slight chances of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a freeze warning that includes Tucker and DeKalb County. It's effective through 9 a.m. Friday. "A fast-moving but potent upper low sweeping across the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians [on] Saturday will bring a chance for at least light wintry precipitation to north Georgia," according to NWS' Hazardous Weather Outlook. The week long rainy weather is expected to end tonight, but could turn to snow according to the National Weather Service.
So Tucker, there is good news and bad news to report on the weather. The National Weather Service is reporting that the rain that's been around all week is about to end tonight, but due to dropping temperatures, we could get a bit of snow this evening. The forecast calls for 100 percent chance of rain. There could be as much as an inch of rain today. Patchy fog is also likely before 10 a.m. and temperatures are expected to reach 51. Winds are expected to pick up with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. For tonight the weather service predicts: Friday is expect to be sunny, with a high of 51 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Tuesday.
A stalled front across central Georgia is bringing widespread rain to the metro area, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy, steady rain could cause flooding to areas with small streams, rivers and low lying areas, including Tucker. The NWS has issued a flood watch through tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The rain is expected to diminish on Wednesday but is expected to increase again on Thursday which could cause additional flooding to the area. By Thursday night the rain is expected to end. Friday is expected to be sunny with a high near 53 degrees. Evening temperatures are predicted to dip to 31 degrees.
