Last Chance: Register to Vote

Today, Oct. 9, is the deadline for voter registration.

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, now is the time. Six million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline. The voter registration deadline for Georgia is today, Tuesday, Oct. 9. If you’re unsure of your registration status, visit the Georgia Secretary of State website.  Voter registration forms are attached to this article and also are available at the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office and all Atlanta-DeKalb County Public Library branches. I want to let you know about an event I'm co-sponsoring in Tucker. "Beat the Badge" 5k Road Race starts at 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2012 at the DeKalb County Police Headquarters, 1960 W. Exchange Place. Scott Holcomb Supports Ban on Lobbyist Gifts

The Representative from Tucker says reform is long overdue.

Representative Scott Holcomb, a Democrat whose district includes Tucker, has announced his support for Republican House Speaker David Ralston’s pledge to end the practice of legislators accepting gifts from lobbyists.   “I am pleased that the Speaker has expressed his commitment to change the way business is done in the Georgia General Assembly. The people of Georgia spoke very clearly on July 31st and Republicans and Democrats agreed on the need for reform," Holcomb said in a statement. Speaker Ralston has promised to convene a study group to examine the way other states deal with the problem.
