Las Colinas Ready for Cinco De Mayo

Mexican place on Main Street rolls out the red carpet Sunday.

The weather may be terrible but that will not stop Las Colinas Mexican Grill from celebrating Cinco De Mayo in style. Co-owner Juan Ramirez told Patch they will be offering food and drink specials such as $4 Margaritas and $3 draft beers. Also, he said patrons who order a pitcher of Margaritas will get a free t-shirt. "Come on out," said Ramirez. "Despite the rain, we're still going to have a great time inside."

Tucker Businesses Sponsoring Boston Volunteers

Three local restaurants and a church are putting out the welcome mat for a special group.

A volunteer team fom Boston University is in town this week, helping out at Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), and three Tucker restaurants are sponsoring dinners for them in return. The visitors are part of BU's Alternative Spring Breaks, a program in which students volunteer their time to various community projects around the country. Riverside Pizza, Roly Poly and Las Colinas are joining in the effort by making sure the students are well fed during their visit. While they are here, the Boston group is staying at First Baptist Chuch of Tucker. "The team will help with a variety of projects, from basic cleaning and inventory organization to filling medical supply orders for local free clinics," said FODAC's Lizbeth Dison in …

Beer Growler Brewing on Main Street

If all goes as planned, there will soon be another alcohol vendor in Tucker.

A local businessman has applied to DeKalb County for a license to open a beer growler in Tucker. Laurie Morrison, co-owner of the building at 2323 Main Street, told Tucker Patch that an application has been submitted to the county for part of her premises to be used as a beer dispenser and that it should open by March 2013. "He's started working on the space, but doesn't want to go too far before he gets the go-ahead," Morrison said. She added that it shouldn't be a problem and that the Main Street Tucker Alliance is "all for it." Morrison, who runs the Main Street School of Art, described the applicant as a "family man who's lived in Tucker for ages" and said this will be his first venture in the growing growler trend. Not so long ago, …

Hopefully this means competitive prices and more variety of craft beers. I'm sure the two shops will overlap a bit in offerings, but the competition should be a good thing. One caveat about the excitement over these growler joints opening up...due to the fact that growler stores are essentially distributors and breweries in GA can't pour growlers for sale on premises, a lot of growler beers aren'…   more ›

Las Colinas Offers Scoutmob Deal

New Mexican eatery gets kudos from the popular online service.

Las Colinas Mexican Grill, which opened on Main Street in May, is getting attention from Scoutmob, the website and phone app responsible for offering stellar deals on restaurant meals, among other things.  Scoutmob has this to say about Las Colinas: "The cutest little street you probably never knew existed is home to a tight knit community (and a pretty stellar high school football team), and smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood is four month old Las Colinas, a family run Mexican joint boasting flavorful Tex-Mex dishes (everything from fajitas and tacos to molcajete, a pot of sizzling meats and veggies, topped with a grilled cactus leaf and a skewer of shrimp) and an abundance of tequila-laden libations." The grill's owner, Juan …

Las Colinas Restaurant Spicing Up Tucker

The new Las Colinas Mexican Grill on Main Street is already developing a loyal fan base.

Tucker is spicing up its local cuisine with the fresh arrival of Las Colinas. Located on Main Street, Las Colinas is a Tex-Mex fusion that will excite your taste buds and leave you wanting more. “It's Mexican food, but at the same time we try to incorporate things so that it is Americanized,” said Juan Ramirez, General Manager at Las Colinas. “We can't have too many spices. We have a lot of Anglo people that aren't used to it. But at the same time, we have the Mexican taste to it – so it is Tex-Mex.” Native to Georgia, Las Colinas has graced the Lithonia area for twenty-three years before deciding to take on the challenge of expansion to Tucker. “It's a family owned restaurant. Las Colinas has been around... [s]ince 1989. I think it was …
