Hundreds Turn Out for Lakeside Cityhood Meeting

Proposed city boundary would include much of the commercial district in west Tucker across I-285.

Several hundred residents turned out for the first public meeting of the Lakeside City Alliance on Wednesday night, and the vast majority said they supported a new movement that might lead to the newest municipality in northern DeKalb County as early as fall 2014. When the alliance's head, Northlake resident Mary Kay Woodworth, asked the packed Lakeside High School auditorium whether it supported the exploration of a new city of Lakeside, most of the audience raised their hands. Only a small group said they were opposed to the idea. "Everything we're doing tonight, it's about a starting point," Woodworth said. "We present this to you with an open mind." The alliance announced its existence only a week ago, and Woodworth said the group was …

BTW--its a reasonable question as whether the Northlake businss area is in Tucker or not--half is 30345 and the other 30084. BTW--when people see "Best Buy in Tucker", they think to themselves--"there's no Best Buy in Tucker"--why is that? Another example--when (not if) the commuter rail come thru, there will be a stattion in "Tucker" and there will be one on Montreal Rd (in Northlake). Will that…   more ›

Tucker Swimmer Breaks County Records

High school swim team is making waves.

Tucker High School is well known for its prowess and winning tradition on the football field. After Cash Deloache’s weekend performance in the DeKalb County Swim Meet, the Tucker High School Swim and Dive team is beginning to make a big splash too.   Deloache broke two county records on Saturday: the 100M Butterfly and the 100M Backstroke. The previous records were held by Lakeside swimmers Jack Lane (2009) and Chris Read (1997) respectively. The Tucker High School student won the 100M Butterfly in a startling 50.50 seconds and won the 100M Backstroke by racing to a 52.52 second time. The THS Boys Swim team placed fourth in the overall Dekalb County standings, and will represent Tucker in the state of Georgia High School Association (GHSA…

Leslie Beach Club Tennis Has Banner Year

The Henderson Mill club's wins include six divisions, three city finals and a city championship.

This year was very good for league team tennis at Leslie Beach Club. LBC fielded a total of 10 teams playing in the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA), spring and fall seasons and one USTA league summer season team. LBC players ranged from “over 55s” to juniors and ended 2012 with all teams but two reaching at least one playoff spot each. The club, on Leslie Drive between Henderson Mill Elementary and Henderson Middle schools, took six division titles with three teams going to the city finals and one city championship. DeKalb Schools Soccer: Tucker Wins Opening Round

State soccer playoffs last night were good for Tucker and Lakeside.

Freshman middle fielder Lucky Teah scored the first two goals of the game to lead the No. 5 ranked Tucker Tigers to a convincing 5-1 Class AAAA soccer playoff victory over the South Paulding Spartans on Tuesday night at Hallford Stadium in Clarkston. The Tigers put pressure on the Spartan defense from the opening kick as the South Paulding goalie battled by blocking several shots by Tucker to keep the score at 0-0 despite the constant pressure. Tucker had a goal by Solomon Roberts disallowed for offsides with 23:30 left in the first half as the Tigers had three opportunities to score in a 50 second time span. The Spartans tested Tucker goalie Steven Duffy only twice in the first half and the score remained 0-0 until Teah slipped a shot …

DeKalb Schools Soccer: Tucker Tigers Take Lead in Region 6-AAAA

Tucker knocks off Marist to take the lead.

Tucker Tiger goalie Steven Duffy got a ride from his teammates after making a stop on a penalty kick to secure the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over rival Marist at Hallford Stadium on Tuesday night in a battle for the top spot in the Region 6-AAAA soccer standings. The Tigers (8-2) defeated No. 9 ranked Lakeside (6-2-2) 1-0 last Friday at Hallford to set up the big match against Marist. Tucker was up 2-1 in the second round of the penalty kicks and Marist’s Patrick Jackson was lining up against Duffy to keep the War Eagles’ hopes alive. Jackson kicked to Duffy’s left and Duffy smothered the kick to secure the victory and celebration by the Tigers as they hoisted him up on their shoulders. The game was a defensive battle as both goalies made key …
