'The Call' Trailer and Review

It's showing at the Movie Tavern in Tucker.

The luminous Halle Berry shows once again why she is an Oscar-worthy actress - even a poor script and a mishmash of a plot can't diminish her. The idea for "The Call" is very cool: a 911 dispatcher Jordan (Berry) gets a call from a teenager Casey (Abigail Breslin) who finds herself in a car trunk, speeding along an L.A. freeway with the psycho who kidnapped her. Jordan talks and talks to Casey, trying to calm her down and find out where she is. Which, eventually, they do. They find Casey in a dripping basement with the kidnapper... and a less-than-satisfying ending. Here's what the critics are saying: "The Call" effectively taps into primal fears only to serve up a deflating bit of intended catharsis. On the way, it stoops to "a-ha" …

Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal Filming in Tucker

Another Hollywood production comes to town.

A movie called "Prisoners" is shooting scenes this week at an industrial complex in Tucker. Starring in the kidnapping drama are Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, and Melissa Leo, among others. The scenes shooting locally are set in the fictional city of Conyers, Pennsylvania. When Patch visited the set on Tuesday afternoon, actors and crew were working on a scene in which a young couple walks out the front entrance of a police station and is accosted by press photographers. Gyllenhaal plays the role of Detective Loki, who follows the couple out of the building. Jackman's character is Keeler Dover, seen sitting in a pick-up truck near the station. UPDATE: Levi's Call Teen Found Safe

Griselda Cibrian, 14, has been found in Norcross and a man has been charged with statutory rape.

Updated Nov. 12, 4:02 p.m. The missing teen who was thought to have been abducted yesterday in Glennville, Ga. has been found safe in a Norcross hotel.  Police found Griselda Cibrian at the Knights Inn on Brookhollow Parkway in Norcross Monday morning, according to 11 Alive. Norcross Patch reports that Raymundo Aranda-Parra has been charged with interference with custody and statutory rape. He is being transferred from the Norcross Police Department to the Gwinnett County Detention Center where he will be held without bond. Initially, Glennville Police said Cibrian was abducted by a 24-year-old man who was considered armed and dangerous. On Monday, GBI spokesman John Bankhead said Cibrian willingly left with the man. Police Need Public’s Help to Find Assault/Kidnapping Suspect

33 year old Ricky Knight is sought after a May 3 incident at the Retreat at Arc Way Apartments.

On May 3, Gwinnett County Police Officers met with a victim after responding to an assault call at the Retreat at Arc Way Apartments at 4000 Northridge Way in unincorporated Lilburn at around 4 p.m. The apartment is the home of the ex-girlfriend of suspect Ricky Knight, 33. Officers were told that upon arriving at the apartment, Knight confronted Byron Cotton, a friend of the family, who was watching the two children in the home. Knight and Cotton struggled when the suspect brandished a gun; Cotton was able to release the magazine from the firearm and escape. The suspect then fled the scene with the children who were returned a few hours later unharmed and released into the custody of their mother. GCPD has stated that as a result of this …

Woman in Crashed Van: Driver Kidnapped Me

An accident early Wednesday in Tucker leads to an arrest.

Channel 2 Action News is reporting that a woman found early this morning near a wrecked minivan in Tucker may have been kidnapped and raped. The minivan struck a brick mailbox on Henderson Road and then flipped over, WSB-TV reported. Witnesses saw two men and a woman in the van when it crashed. “The two guys, they got out and started walking one way and the girl, she started walking the other way and said that they kidnapped and they were trying to rape her,” Zachary Milo said. Another witness, David Chesnokov, said: “She started coming up toward us, ‘Help me get away from them. They just kidnapped me from my hotel.’” Police arrived and captured the driver, who was allegedly intoxicated, and charged him with driving under the influence. …

Kidnap Suspect Identified, Will Not Face Charges

Two children allegedly taken from a gas station at 2 a.m. Wednesday were later found safe.

The DeKalb County Police Department has released the name of the person believed to be responsible for yesterday's kidnapping of two children, Jalen and Amari Mattison, from a gas station on Wesley Chapel Road. The man is identified in a release by Dekalb police spokesperson Mekka Parish as Charles Watson of Stone Mountain. Watson turned himself in to DeKalb County Police Headquesters in Tucker at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday. However, after interviewing the suspect, police detectives now believe that Watson did not intend to abduct the children and "do not plan to file charges against him at this time," according to the statement. Accused Kidnapper Had Troubled Childhood, Served Prison Time

Former Tucker resident Thomas Woods was on parole following imprisonment on a manslaughter conviction.

Details are starting to emerge about the troubled past of the young man who is accused of trying to kidnap a child from a WalMart in Bremen, Ga. on Feb 8. Thomas Woods, 25, who grew up in Tucker, is being held without bond by Haralson County Police for attempting to abduct Brittney Baxter, 7, from the toy aisle of the store. Security cameras show a man running with a child in his arms. She struggles and gets away from him, and he runs off.  According to a former neighbor of the Woods family in Tucker who wishes to remain anonymous, Thomas Woods' problems began as a child whose father suffered from severe back pain following surgery, and whose mother left him.
