Rep. Johnson Introduces Small Business Bills

Rep. Hank Johnson, whose district includes portions of Tucker, introduced "The Help Entrepreneurs Create American Jobs Act" and "The Fairness and Transparency in Contracting Act" last week. A press release from Johnson's office states: The Entrepreneurs Act, a bipartisan bill, would permanently double the tax cut for start-up businesses. The Fairness in Contracting Act would ensure that federal small business contracts go to genuine small businesses instead of subsidiaries of large companies.  See the attached video of Johnson introducing the bills. Rep. Hank Johnson this week reintroduced the Resource Assessment of Rare Earths (RARE) Act of 2013 [H.R. 981], which directs the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to conduct a three-year, comprehensive global mineral assessment of rare earth elements (REEs). Johnson's Fourth Congressional District includes portions of Tucker. Rep. U.S. Representative makes it to Georgia Trend's annual list.

Hank Johnson, now serving his fourth term as U.S. Representative for the Fourth Congressional District - which includes some of Tucker - has been named to Georgia Trend magazine's 2013 list of Most Influential Georgians. Rep. Hank Johnson Talks About Fiscal Cliff Vote

Local representative issues statement on passage of the bill.

Democrat Hank Johnson, whose Fourth Congressional District includes parts of Tucker, released the following statement Tuesday evening after voting on H.R. 8 – the American Taxpayer Relief Act – to avoid the fiscal cliff. The House voted 257 to 167 to pass the legislation: “I voted to pass the American Taxpayer Relief Act because avoiding the fiscal cliff removes a massive barrier to continued growth of the American economy. The bill protects the middle class – providing permanent tax relief, while restoring equity in the tax code by requiring that the wealthy pay their fair share. Rep. Johnson Pushes for Military Suicide Prevention

Hank Johnson's initiative would seek out potential at-risk cases.

Congressman Hank Johnson, whose district includes portions of Tucker, is seeking, under a new bill, to prevent cases of suicide among members of the military. Rep. Johnson’s legislation as passed by the House of Representatives and Senate would allow military commanding officers and mental health professionals to talk to at-risk service members about the firearms they own personally and encourage them to safely store those weapons in a military facility or with the use of a gunlock. “This is not a panacea that will prevent all suicides in our military,” said Johnson. “But it is a good place to start as we all come together to address this troubling epidemic. Rep. Johnson Helping Homeless Veterans

Tucker representative wants local groups to help keep veterans off the streets.

U.S. Representative Hank Johnson, whose Fourth Congressional District includes Tucker, has announced two Atlanta-based groups will receive more than $1.3 million from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to fight veterans’ homelessness in 2012-2013. Action Ministries Inc. of Atlanta will receive $1 million and Decatur Cooperative Ministry Inc., $320,000 to provide financial and emotional support, as well as housing stability, for veterans in the Fourth District and throughout metro Atlanta. “Veterans have served us faithfully, and it is our responsibility to give them the support they need to rebuild their lives,” said Rep. Today, Monday, July 2, is your last chance to register to vote in the July 31 primary. To register, go to the DeKalb County Office of Registration and Elections at 4380 Memorial Drive in Decatur. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The most talked about issue on the primary ballot is the regional transportation referendum. Voters in 10 metro Atlanta counties will decide whether to impose a 1-cent sales tax to pay for massive transportation projects. Rep. Hank Johnson Launches Online Job Center

Portal includes links to other job search sites, job fair updates and more.

There's now another way to look for a job. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-district 4) has launched an online job center, his office announced Monday. The new feature: Over the last two years, since 2009, Johnson has held four jobs fairs throughout the district, including in DeKalb, Rockdale and Gwinnett counties and in the city of Atlanta. In the announcement, Johnson said: “Helping my constituents in these difficult times is my top priority. Our in-person job fairs have been a huge success, but I wanted to provide a tool constituents could use to help them find work year round.”
