Tucker Businesses Sponsoring Boston Volunteers

Three local restaurants and a church are putting out the welcome mat for a special group.

A volunteer team fom Boston University is in town this week, helping out at Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), and three Tucker restaurants are sponsoring dinners for them in return. The visitors are part of BU's Alternative Spring Breaks, a program in which students volunteer their time to various community projects around the country. Riverside Pizza, Roly Poly and Las Colinas are joining in the effort by making sure the students are well fed during their visit. While they are here, the Boston group is staying at First Baptist Chuch of Tucker. FODAC Hosts Volunteers from Tucker Best Buy Store

Group helps load supplies for Sandy Relief during annual MLK Day of Service.

Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), a local non-profit organization providing medical equipment and supplies to the disabled community, this week hosted a group of volunteers from three local Best Buy stores. The volunteer team, comprised of thirteen Best Buy employees from the Tucker, Lithonia and Mall of Georgia stores, were assigned to FODAC as part of a company-wide “Day of Service,” held each year on Martin Luther King Day. During its volunteer time at FODAC, the Best Buy team was instrumental in getting a shipment of much-needed medical supplies, such as wheelchairs, shower chairs and hospital beds, loaded on a truck headed to New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. “Many people are still suffering the aftermath …

Website Will Help Injured Pedestrian

'Friends For Eli' site set up to raise funds for Eli Tabb's rehabilitation.

Tucker businesswoman Nancy Qarmout has set up a website called 'Friends For Eli' that will raise funds for Eli Tabb, her Roly Poly employee who was seriously injured in September when he was struck by a car outside the restaurant. Qarmout, who also runs Festival Gifts & Art on Main Street and the Tucker Farmers' Market, told Patch that Tabb is in physical rehabilitation and is improving. "I had lunch with him last week and he seemed in pretty good spirits," she said. FODAC’s Thrift Store Holding Auction

Wednesday's auction will benefit Friends of Disabled Adults and Children.

To clear space for new donations, we are holding a public auction on Wednesday, 18 July at 900 Lewis Road in Stone Mountain. Up for sale, no reserves, will be TVs, household items, furniture, restaurant and catering equipment and supplies, novelty gifts and loads of other items.
