DeKalb County authorities executed search warrants Monday morning at the home and office of Burrell Ellis.
DeKalb County investigators searched the home and office of county CEO Burrell Ellis on Monday morning. From a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Three unmarked police cars were parked outside Ellis’s home in the Southland subdivision, Channel 2 said. The search comes on the same day Ellis testified before a special grand jury investigating county watershed operations. Ellis appeared before local media shortly before 1 p.m. and said he's unaware of any wrongdoing by him or those within his office related to the department's bidding. He also said he hasn't had any inappropriate contact with county vendors that do business with the department. "We're just going to continue to cooperate [with the investigation]," Ellis said. The Tucker community came out in full force last weekend to support the revitalization of historic Johns Homestead Park. DeKalb County’s Natural Resources Management Office brought heavy equipment, and Friends of Johns Homestead, Tucker Civic Association, and Tucker Historical Society brought volunteers and tools. The 50 acre park, which includes the historic 1828 homestead and Twin Brothers Lakes nature preserve, now falls in Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton's District Four. She was given a tour of the homestead itself on Saturday, and the surrounding land and out-buildings. “It’s amazing to see a structure still standing from that era, right on Lawrenceville Highway,” Commissioner Sutton said, “It’s a valuable piece of our history, and …

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos, Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis and Dekalb County CEO participated in a PCID panel discussion last Friday.
Last Friday, Dekalb County CEO Burrell Ellis echoed what many government officials and business leaders say these days. “I think the rest of the nation is looking at metro Atlanta to see what’s going to happen,” he said, referring to the region’s transportation woes. Ellis joined Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos and Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis in a roundtable luncheon and panel discussion by the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts at Villa Christina restaurant. John Heagy, Chair of DeKalb PCID, moderated the talk, which focused on economic development. With a $1.3 billion initiative in the works by the Dept. of Watershed Management, the health of local creeks and drinking water will improve, with your help.
Just about every weekend for the past eight years, DeAnn Peterson and her son step outside their back door in Tucker to walk their small corner of Camp Creek. Their typical creek-bed journey brings Great Blue Heron visits, darter fish watching, and your typical floating trash pickup. But over the last two months Camp Creek brought them a very different story down her riverbed... Thick black sewer water that stuck around for days before Mother Nature was able to flow it further downstream. The Culprits? Two sewer force main breaks. One from lift station #28 by the old Sears building and the other a private sewer lift station behind Wal-Mart. The Power of Social Media DeAnn Peterson was disgusted. She and her family have enjoyed this …
