Tucker CID Is DeKalb’s Newest Community Improvement District

A CID is a self-taxing district that uses additional property tax dollars to make transportation and infrastructure improvements.

After working several months on the project, volunteers with the Tucker Community Improvement District (CID) Formation Committee cheered when the DeKalb Board of Commissioners unanimously approved DeKalb’s third CID in the Tucker area. “I can’t express how pleased I am with all of the people who came together to make this possible,” said Honey Van De Kreke, co-manager of the Main Street Tucker Alliance and the Tucker CID Formation Committee. “This is the third CID in DeKalb and to my knowledge the only one formed totally by volunteers.”   “After the success of the Tucker LCI and the Tucker Overlay District, there is now a funding mechanism that can improve the area such as accelerating transportation and infrastructure improvement projects…

Tucker Community Improvement District Gets Started

Papers have been signed and the process is underway.

The official kick-off for the Tucker Community Improvement District (CID) got underway Wednesday, Feb. 27, at The Bank of North Georgia in Tucker as several prominent business owners signed the necessary papers to begin the process of establishing a CID. “We have had three previous meetings with some of our largest commercial property owners and so far the response has been overwhelming to launch a CID in Tucker,” said Honey Van de Kreke, Vice President of Elrep Sales in Tucker and one of the first business owners to sign the consent forms. “This will give us the funding source needed to change our area into a thriving activity center that provides positive economic development and supports the lifelong community that is Tucker.” Public …

Tucker Business Leaders Start CID Campaign

A Community Improvement District is being established for the Tucker area.

A coalition of Tucker business and property owners are kicking off the Tucker Community Improvement District (CID) on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The Bank of North Georgia, at 5100 LaVista Road in Tucker, will host the event at 10:30 a.m. as several prominent business owners sign the necessary papers to begin the process of establishing a CID. “A CID would give us the funding source needed to change our area into a thriving activity center that provides positive economic development and supports the lifelong community that is Tucker,” said Honey Van de Kreke, Vice President of Elrep Sales in Tucker. “It costs the residential taxpayers nothing, and it is the best alternative to forming a city.” Forming the Tucker CID will enhance the economic …

Stone Mountain CID Expands in Tucker

The Community Improvement District has added about two more miles to its corridor.

The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District (CID) has grown. The CID - industrial and commercial property owners within a specific area who have agreed to increase their own taxes to pay for various improvements in that corridor - recently received county approval to expand up to the Gwinnett County line, said the district's president, Emory Morsberger. Before the expansion, the district's area included Mountain Industrial Boulevard roughly from Hugh Howell Road in Tucker to East Ponce de Leon and all side streets within that corridor. "We had people from the other parts of the area asking if they could join us," Morsberger said. Now extending up to about Lawrenceville Highway, the Stone Mountain CID has added about two more miles to…
