Another Installment From the Trenches of Faith

The soul of a Seoul in flight, a living deity's fold, and Saturday's Christians, all rolled into one facility

The rationale for journalism to examine worship is at least twofold.  First of all, as William James so eloquently stated in his The Varieties of Religious Experience, a large portion of humankind find the paradoxes of life unsupportable outside of a context of the exploration of life's hidden secrets.             "Were one asked to characterize the life of religion in the broadest and most general terms possible, one might say that it consists of the belief that there is an unseen order, and that our supreme good lies in harmoniously adjusting ourselves thereto."  No journal of the human prospect can speak intelligibly to many readers if it does not seek to 'cover' this ineffable realm of being.             In the second …

Striking a Chord at Tucker First

Whether you're a pro or just starting out, Tucker First United Methodist Church invites you to join their Wednesday guitar classes

Todd Miechiels has been a member of  Tucker First United Methodist for approximately five years. More than two years ago fellow church member Mimi Sanders mentioned to Miechiels that the kids at church could profit from a guitar instructor. The seed was then planted in Miechiels' head for the guitar class ministry. Miechiels offers the group guitar lessons every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in room 102. The group learns chords, strumming patterns and sight-reading. Instead of "Mary Had a Little Lamb," the class learns popular Christian praise and worship songs. You can also see Miechiels putting his skill to use on stage with the contemporary worship band, The Forgiven, on Sunday mornings at the "Activities Center" at Tucker First United …
