The evening started last Thursday with the anxious anticipation of parents, cameras in hand, waiting for the Northlake Children’s Chorus to ring in this year’s holiday season. Tucker resident Jeff Sears watched while daughter Annabelle sang Jingle Bells and Christmas is Coming with her fellow carolers. “The best yet,” acknowledged Sears. “They picked a good day of the week, in conjunction with the (Tucker) Farmer’s Market. More people are here this year.” Ester Davis agreed this year has been the best Christmas on Main Street yet. “We come to almost every event downtown. It makes you feel like you live in a small town. This is just so nice,” said Davis. The new additions of live music, more food and vendors is all thanks to OTTMA, the Old …

Former Tucker High School honor student comes home to Georgia for a family Christmas.
It’s 3 a.m. in Balad, Iraq. Kiara Lamar opens her eyes to the sound of prayer. But not the kind she’s used to, growing up as a Baptist in the deep south. “You can hear them praying in the villages all around the forward operating base where we were, over loud speakers, all in Arabic," she said. Lamar, a 2010 Tucker High School graduate, grew up knowing she wanted to see the world. What she didn’t know is that it would be by way of the U.S. Army. She considers herself lucky to experience different cultures. “Ramadan was all new to me. It’s the month where they practice very strict religion, no eating during the day, they pray all day. It’s wild.” “At first it was kind of strange,” Lamar explains, “I didn’t understand it, but once it was …

The show, dubbed TFUMC's "gift to the community," was an evening of music and drama depicting the Christmas story.
Tucker First United Methodist Church gave what they billed a “gift to the Tucker community” on Sunday night. “Christmas at Tucker,” a music and drama production telling the Christmas story, was presented to a packed sanctuary both at 5 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. The production, which included over 120 actors, singers, musicians, and dancers, was directed by Tom Moore, Minister of Music and Arts at TFUMC. The show, in its second year with plans for it to continue annually, is considered a “community production,” and included participants from the church’s congregation, but also from the surrounding area. To further the "gift" and "community" themes, church members were encouraged to “tithe” a tenth of their allotted tickets, offering them to…

I received a tip from a friend regarding the incredible light show of one of our neighbors: If you get a chance this week, check out the wonderful display at Cedar Circle (down Brockett Road towards Cooledge). There is accompanying Christmas music on the radio – the frequency is on a sign at the entrance. Armed with a tripod, my walkman, and a Digital Canon Rebel, I decided to see what it was about. Since the Cedar Circle neighborhood is a stone's throw away, I decided to walk down. Chilly though the odyssey proved, the spectacle was well worth it. Upon entering the Cedar Circle neighborhood, signs greet you encouraging to tune to 87.9 to listen to the Holiday special. Though at first all you hear is the crackling of Star 94 making its …
