Investigators Search County CEO's Home

DeKalb County authorities executed search warrants Monday morning at the home and office of Burrell Ellis.

DeKalb County investigators searched the home and office of county CEO Burrell Ellis on Monday morning. From a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Three unmarked police cars were parked outside Ellis’s home in the Southland subdivision, Channel 2 said. The search comes on the same day Ellis testified before a special grand jury investigating county watershed operations. Ellis appeared before local media shortly before 1 p.m. and said he's unaware of any wrongdoing by him or those within his office related to the department's bidding. He also said he hasn't had any inappropriate contact with county vendors that do business with the department. "We're just going to continue to cooperate [with the investigation]," Ellis said. Henderson Middle Student Wins County CEO's Youth Volunteer Award

Eighth-grader and Leafmore resident Spencer Wilson won the award for helping classmate Jason Tyler recover from a traumatic brain injury.

Henderson Middle School eighth-grader Spencer Wilson is one of DeKalb County's 2012 Youth Volunteer Award winners. It's a pretty cool story. The award, given by county CEO Burrell Ellis, goes to several kids each year helping out around the community. Spencer got it for helping his classmate, Jason Tyler, who suffered a brain hemorhage in December and was in a coma for a month. Spencer has been visiting with Jason to read and visit with him since the injury, and the Tyler and Wilson families have become friends as well. The Wilsons also organized a community fundraiser in March that raised more than $10,000 for Jason. Thanks to Beth Wieder for giving us the heads up on the award.
