There are a lot of ways to attack and defend, and Northeast Georgia villains and victims have tried most.
Click on the links to read the full stories. When bad people are after you, resisting is a good idea. An Athens man smacked an intruder with a baseball bat after the guy kicked his door in, and the guy ran away with his door-kicking friends. A woman in Norcross beat back a man who sprayed her with pepper spray and then tried to choke her while she cleaned a hotel room. Her quick thinking helped get her to safety. But when the police are after you, resisting generally leads to more trouble. A Barrow County man whose dogs attacked officers trying to arrest him lost his dogs in that exchange. Running from the police might also lead you to end up in a tree with a deputized dog on your tail, which is what happened to a possible burglary suspect…

Here are some unusual police stories from around North Georgia.
Although the stories in our "weird police news" column are random and strange, you sometimes find interesting coincidences that seem to tie them together. A crack pipe was found in the Athens case; methamphetamine use is suspected in the other. In these economic times, who doesn’t dream of hearing, “You’ve won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes?” A woman in unincorporated Stone Mountain heard those words, but there was a catch. She was told by a male phone-caller that a camera crew was on its way with the check, and all she needed to do to prepare for the big moment was to purchase $200 in prepaid cards to cover taxes and other costs. She obliged, and was called later by the man asking for more money. The camera crew never arrived. 2. More fake sweepstakes news: A man who recently moved to Snellville after being scammed out of $20,000 in New York because he supposedly won multiple sweepstakes told police the man who …
