Tucker players are in the roster.
Georgia State University is playing host to the 2013 DeKalb County Junior and Senior All-Star Baseball Classics on Tuesday, May 28 at GSU's Baseball Complex next to Panthersville Stadium. The format is different this year as the teams will be split from the East and West sides of the county instead of North and South. The squads will be made up of the top 18 juniors and seniors from each side. The Juniors kick off the new format at 4 p.m. in a single nine inning game in the fifth annual contest. The East will be coached by Arabia Mountain’s Eric Hoxie and assisted by Stephenson’s Marco Jackson. The West squad is led by Columbia’s Steve Dennis and assisted by Chamblee’s Brian Ely. Tucker rebounded from the loss to Columbia to finish 2-1 on the week.
An impressive contingent of seven local teams burst out of the gates to undefeated records in a rainy opening week of baseball action. Martin Luther King Jr. led the way in that group with a perfect 3-0 mark. Coach Richard Gaines and the Lions rolled past Towers (18-0) Feb. 18, Newton County (7-4) Feb. 20 and Riverdale (10-1) Feb. 21 by the combined margin of 35-5. The Lakeside Vikings (2-0) registered a pair of impressive triumphs over Duluth (2-1) Feb. 18 and Riverwood (12-5) Feb. 21. Coach Bill Newsome’s squad opened some eyes with the big victory over a highly rated Riverwood squad entering the 2013 season. Fans are invited to the annual event on Jan. 24.
The 13th annual DeKalb County Baseball Media Day is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Tucker High School baseball field. Media and fans are invited to attend the event which includes all 19 DeKalb County high school baseball teams along with Decatur, Marist and St. Pius scheduled to attend. Coaches and up to five players from each school will be available for interviews and photo opportunities to the media. Arrangements will be made to go inside if it rains. Join the Tucker Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball team at Five Guys Burgers & Fries at Burns Corner, 4306 Lawrenceville Highway, Suite 140 in Tucker on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. All players are expected to attend and wear Tucker baseball apparel to this event.
