What Now for Falcons After Loss to 49ers?

Atlanta is again at a crossroads after a heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship game. Share your thoughts.

The 2013 Super Bowl will be Sunday, February 3, in New Orleans. Game time is 6:30 p.m., CBS. --- The Atlanta Falcons went farther in the playoffs in 2013 than in any year since the 1998 season. Yet, there's still the taste of defeat. And that makes many Falcons fans wonder, "What does it take?" Sunday's 28-24 loss to San Francisco at the Georgia Dome was tough for Atlanta in that the Falcons, who were the top-seeded NFC playoff team, had a 17-0 lead in the first half. According to media reports, that made it the largest comeback in the history of the NFC Championship. That shows the Falcons' chief weaknesses - defense, and a championship tradition. And those should be the team's top priorities to keep moving forward. So, Tucker football …

Arthur Blank’s Stadium Showdown

Forced and Dirty? Senator Curt Thompson of Tucker on approving a new Falcons stadium.

There’s a lot more riding on the line for Arthur Blank than a Super Bowl bid when the Falcons meet the 49ers this weekend. Already, talks are underway about the Falcons franchise demands for a modern stadium that would feature the newest in retractable roof technology and amenities. Of course, simply talking about a new stadium has already raised concerns from various groups and many citizens of Atlanta and Fulton County. Some of these concerns are not without merit and before the legislative body votes on a stadium proposal, I think it would be wise to lay out the arguments both for and against the new Falcons Stadium. The new Falcon Stadium would be located near the old Georgia Dome site on the Georgia World Congress Center plaza. …

If Arthur Blank wants a new stadium, Arthur Blank can pay for it. If he doesn't like that, Arthur Blank can make sure the door doesn't hit him (and the Falcons) in the butt on the way out of town.   more ›

Will the Atlanta Falcons Make it to the Super Bowl?

The team is looking to make its way back to the Super Bowl for a second time in franchise history — how do you see its chances?

Sunday's 30-28 win against the Seattle Seahawks puts the Atlanta Falcons one win away from a shot at the Super Bowl for only the second time in franchise history. Boston.com has a blow-by-blow recap of the game that had Atlanta Falcons tight-end Tony Gonzalez in tears. Next stop, a shot at the NFC Championship game in Atlanta against San Francisco on Jan. 20. Last time the two teams met, in game four in 2010, it was the Falcons who came out on top. According to Suwanee Patch, the Falcons won the NFL South division in 2012 and have home-field advantage throughout the NFL playoffs. A win Sunday would put the Falcons in the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans on Feb. 3. The last and only time the Falcons made an appearance in the Superbowl, in …

I worry about the Falcons aging defense. They seem to do well for the first half but seem to tire out and lose their steam in the third and fourth quarters. This will be a crucial factor I against the 49ers.   more ›

My Take

Clean Room on the Line for Falcons-Packers

A house divided by NFL fans of Green Bay and Atlanta will at least get a clean bedroom from the outcome.

The NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons has created at least one divided house in metro Atlanta. I have lived in Atlanta for more than half of my life (we won’t go into how many years that is). I am an Atlanta Falcons fan, with one exception: When the Dirty Birds play the Green Bay Packers — like they do this Sunday night — I see only green-and-gold. Yep, I’m a Cheesehead. That’s not a big deal, with one exception: My 14-year-old son is partial to the red-and-black of the Falcons.  He’s a big fan, with more Falcons gear than most of his friends. Yep, I failed miserably as a football father. You can probably guess that the house will hear a little bit of trash-talking this weekend. Of how Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and …
