The third annual DeKalb County All-Star Soccer games will be played at James. R. Hallford Stadium in Clarkston on Monday, May 20. The two games (girls and boys) match the top DeKalb County soccer players from Inside the Perimeter schools vs. Outside the Perimeter schools. The girls game kicks off the event at 5:30 p.m. as the OTP squad tries to break the ITP’s two game winning streak. The OTP squad is coached by Dunwoody’s Edgar Flores and assisted by Tricia Silvera and features some of the top scorers in the county including Southwest DeKalb senior Kristen Peagler who set the season scoring record for the county with 55 goals in 2013. Georgia State University is playing host to the 2013 DeKalb County Junior and Senior All-Star Baseball Classics on Tuesday, May 28 at GSU's Baseball Complex next to Panthersville Stadium. The format is different this year as the teams will be split from the East and West sides of the county instead of North and South. The squads will be made up of the top 18 juniors and seniors from each side. The Juniors kick off the new format at 4 p.m. in a single nine inning game in the fifth annual contest. The East will be coached by Arabia Mountain’s Eric Hoxie and assisted by Stephenson’s Marco Jackson. The West squad is led by Columbia’s Steve Dennis and assisted by Chamblee’s Brian Ely. The 2013 soccer seasons came to an end for the Tucker Tigers and Druid Hills Red Devils with losses in the second round of their respective state playoffs. The No. 9 ranked Tucker Tigers traveled to No. 6 ranked Allatoona on Wednesday and lost a tight 2-1 decision to the Buccaneers to fall out of the Class AAAAA state playoffs. Staff from Keller Williams Realty in Tucker will spend time today, Thursday, May 9, with Fugees Family students for an afternoon of soccer. It takes place at Milam Park in Clarkston from 12 until 3:30 p.m. Fugees Family is a non-profit organization devoted to working with child survivors of war. They build upon the power of soccer to galvanize the kids by giving them the support and structure they need to realize their vast potential. Seven years ago, Coach Luma Mufleh started a Fugees team to provide refugee boys with free access to organized soccer. Jamoris Slaughter was drafted in the sixth round, news outlets report.
News outlets including the Champion Newspaper report that the Cleveland Browns drafted Jamoris Slaughter, a Tucker High School alum. The Browns drafted Slaughter in the sixth round, according to the newspaper. Slaughter, who suffered an injury in his 2012 season with Notre Dame, was among four former DeKalb students recently drafted by NFL teams, the Champion reported.

The Tigers came from behind to beat the Osborne Cardinals on Wednesday.
The Tucker Tigers won a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Osborne Cardinals on Wednesday at Hallford Stadium as part of a DeKalb County soccer playoff triple-header. The Region 6-AAAAA No. 2 seeded Tigers found themselves trailing 2-1 with just over seven minutes left in the game and that is when Shadrack Nsukami stepped up to rally his team to victory. “Osborne was a good team,” said Tucker Head Coach Tim Newmyer. “I don’t know how they were just a No. 3 seed. The 2013 GHSA Soccer State Playoffs kick off on Tuesday, April 30, with 12 DeKalb County teams tapped to play. Girls’ teams from Druid Hills, Lakeside, Dunwoody, Arabia Mountain and Chamblee open on that first day along with the Lakeside boys’ team. Wednesday, May 1 has six DeKalb County boys’ teams set to play including Druid Hills, Dunwoody, Chamblee, Clarkston, Stone Mountain and Tucker. The Druid Hills Lady Red Devils (10-5-1) host Westlake (7-4) in the first round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs in a game set for 6:30 p.m. at Adams Stadium. Tucker defensive tackle Elisha Shaw attended Alabama's A-Day spring game over the weekend and came away impressed. Shaw was among a group of elite prospects in Tuscaloosa on Saturday and the experience may well have narrowed his choices. Shaw's video highlights "You just don't see excitement like this at other schools for a spring game," Shaw told AL.com. "Everybody's into it, everybody's supportive of this program all year long.
