The MigDovie Project: A Look Back
A look back at the highlights of the MigDovie Project. A Sold Out Success...Creative training and career development for adults with disabilities.
As you may know, our very first edition of MigDovies sold out last week. (To get acquainted with the MigDovie project, the winter 2012 line of MigDovies.)
We want to commemorate the completion of a successful entrepreneurial project - from conception to creation, production, and finally, distribution - by sharing some stories from our mentors who played key roles in guiding our participants during the entire process.
Teresa McClure, our Community Support Specialist, was one of the key mentors on the MigDovie project. She offers a touching story centered around on of our partners, the Hope Store of Roswell, Ga. WOW staff and participants gave MigDovies as gifts to thank our wonderfully supportive local partners for all of their exceptional efforts. Learn more about the Hope Store here.

“We went to the Hope Store today for our scheduled training. Our team was excited them a MigDovie to thank them for the learning opportunities and experience they have provided. Each team member told a story describing their experiences working on the MigDovie project. They each had something different to tell. They thanked Randy, one of our contacts at the Hope Store, personally for all the help he has offered.
Sabrina, who was one of the most enthusiastic MigDovie team members, told Randy “This is my favorite place to train because I want to work in retail sales, and I have learned everything I know about sales from this store.” Others followed suit with words of thanks and kindness, including Tyrone, John, and Charles. John summed it up well when he said “without people like you who give us a chance, we would be lost.” Very touching. The managers at the Hope Store said they would treasure this forever, and they cried. They told our team members how important they were to them. They said they were their best volunteers. They liked how they stayed focused and always worked together as a team. I hope you enjoyed this moment. I sure did.”

From Debra Koch, another community mentor who provided guidance during the MigDovie project:
“The best way to wrap up our MigDovie project is with this episode on our final day of work. I offered to help Sabrina “crumple” the wrapping paper and she begin to teach me the proper method of crumpling. I thought I followed her instructions but when I was done she politely told me I had tried and done a good job for being my first time BUT it needed to be done over to have the perfect “crumpled” look and texture, and she redid it for me. WOW, we have trained some really talented folks and they are very proud and particular of how their work is done!”
