Hands For Hire Fayette Spreads Some Holiday Cheer

Hands For Hire Fayette packs gift bags for the USO and US troops returning from overseas.

January 8th, 2013: So often during the holidays, nonprofits and other organizations send out emails, facebook posts, letters, and more, all requesting your support. After all, it’s the giving season, which means it’s key for organizations to participate in these campaigns. WOW is no different- you may have gotten our newsletters, emails, and facebook posts as well. With all the requests for support circulating, we’d like to highlight our Fayette County branch of Hands For Hire and their efforts to give back just last week.

Last Monday and Tuesday, HFH staff and team members participated in an ambitious project for the USO. They packed over 1000 goodie bags for soldiers returning home for the holidays. HFH Program Manager Ivona Balicka summed up the proceedings, “Our team did an excellent job and was instrumental in the project’s success. I personally oversaw both days of work, and believe me it was hard work. We aimed for 500 baggies per day and with the support of our team we exceeded our goal of 1000.” Col. Terry Whitlock, who is also the parent of an HFH participant, took on a leadership role for the second year running. Our participants were excited to lend a hand, and to offer a gesture thanks to those who have sacrificed so much.

Please stay tuned for more photos and reflections. As you’ll see, a good time was had by all, and we were very happy to lend a hand. Soldiers were greeted at 3 AM, along with Col. Whitlock, and even Santa himself.
