Classical Guitar Event at Tucker Library

Dr. John Akers presents a tribute to the work of Carl Sandburg and Andres Segovia.

A special presentation called 'History of Carl Sandburg's Guitar and Andres Segovia' takes place at the Tucker Reid-Cofer Library on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.

The program is a tribute to poet Carl Sandburg's work and how it was influenced by Andres Segovia, the virtuoso Spanish musician who was known as "the father of modern classical guitar."

It will be presented by Dr. John Akers, professor of Spanish at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. and a renowned guitarist in his own right. "He is also a Carl Sandburg scholar and has combined Sandburg’s and his own passion of classical guitar into presentations illustrating some of Sandburg’s works and preferred music," says the AUU website.
