Paws for the Cause with Animal Action Rescue
Annual adoption benefit to promote awareness of animal cruelty
Patch readers may remember story. Watson suffered injuries stemming from abuse, and Animal Action Rescue worked with local vets to restore this sweet dog to health. He received a forever home with Inman Park business owner ; now, there are other dogs like Watson that need our help.
One of AAR's important annual fundraisers, Paws for the Cause, is scheduled for this Saturday, April 9, 2011. From 10 a.m until 2 p.m, on the Decatur Square. “The event is [meant] to promote awareness regarding animal cruelty,” says AAR director Debra Finnegan; “it's intended to educate the public, and it will hold adoptions for animals that otherwise would possibly be euthanized.”
DeKalb Country District Attorney, Robert D. James, actively sponsors the Paws for the Cause benefit:

“As District Attorney, protecting animals from cruelty and neglect is one of my top priorities. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Animal Action Rescue, DeKalb Animal Services and State Representatives Stephanie Stuckey Benfield, Michele Henson and Mary Margaret Oliver to create the 3rd Annual Paws for the Cause event. Paws for the Cause is designed to promote animal cruelty awareness, pet health and education, and pet adoption.
This year’s event will kick-off in the heart of Decatur, where pets, pet owners and animal lovers can interact and learn important facts about animal care. The event will feature performances by local bands, as well as dog agility and disc demonstrations. A veterinarian will be on-site to administer low cost immunizations and $20 microchipping. Animal Action Rescue and DeKalb Animal Services and Enforcement will bring dogs that are looking for their forever homes,” said James.
