How Much Is That Kitty In The Window?

Monty spends much of his day by the window of LifeLine's Kitty Motel, watching the world outside. Is he looking for you?

At one time Monty was probably the most polite stray cat in Atlanta.

A mid-sized 2-year-old black-and-white feline, he's so courteous that that when he lived on the street other cats were always beating him up.

He doesn't hold the past bullying episodes against anyone, however. He was rescued by LifeLine Animal Project and now he lives in their no-kill Kitty Motel with more than a dozen other cats, all of whom he gets along with.

He's not a stray any longer, thanks to LifeLine, but he doesn't have a home of his own, either. He's never had a home. He's never been fostered or adopted and Mickie Blair would like to see that change.

"He's healthy now but he was so sickly when he came in," says Blair, who serves as the animal rescue and advocate organization's field coordinator.

"He was so pale and skinny and he was covered in fleas. He probably had flea anemia, " she explains, "It was so sad at the time but he's doing just great now."

A quiet fellow, it's easy to overlook Monty when you walk into the cage-free area full of cats who are are waiting for homes. The more hyper feline residents will rush to greet you, all wanting attention or to see if you have treats.

Walla, a beautiful long-haired black cat, will try to climb your skirt, should you wear one. Ike will nibble on your toes, making it necessary to improvise a dance step to get around him if you want to go anywhere. In the midst of all that activity, it's easy to overlook the serene black and white cat sitting by the window.

Monty spends much of his time sitting by that window, napping or intently watching the comings and goings at LifeLine's low cost spay and neuter clinic.

He likes to play, says Blair, but she also calls him "one of the most chilled-out cats I've ever known."

Blair also indicates that he's extremely patient with people and and great with other cats, two things that are obvious if you watch him for a few minutes. His sweet nature didn't serve him well on the streets but it makes him the perfect cat candidate for the right home.

Monty is neutered, is up-to-date on his vaccinations, and he's "combo test negative" - meaning he doesn't have feline leukemia or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

"He's adorable," coos Blair, who has cared for him for the past eight months. "Just adorable."
