Henderson Park Welcomes Workday Volunteers

Park organizers are seeking help on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Volunteers are being invited to on Saturday, Dec. 3 to help with upkeep and maintenance.

The park's website describes the purpose of the gathering:

The goal of our first workday on Dec. 3Β  is to improve access from one side of the park to the other. We hope to be able to recruit at least 25 volunteers for this workday.

Before master plan construction began on the Henderson Road side of the park, users could walk from one side of the park to the other via a very narrow natural path. Since construction, a retention pond is located at the end of the new asphalt trails, hindering access to the narrow path that leads to the lake.

Improving access will involve two elements:

  • clearing a 50-foot β€œapproach” path (photo 2), and
  • widening and mulching approximately 300 feet of path (photo 3), ending at the base of the soccer field retention wall where the path to the lake widens

Helpers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. in the new parking lot next to the community garden on Henderson Road and to bring gloves, shovels and if possible, wheelbarrows. The event is scheduled to end at noon.
