College Trunk Event Benefits 2 Tucker Students

A Tucker parent shares positive news about her college-bound daughter and a friend.

By Gail Pinckney

There are still some great initiatives happening in this county and I think people should know about them.

My daughter Chase Pinckney and her classmate Kainat Jamal are both graduates from Tucker High School. They participated during the last four years in the DeKalb County Youth Commissioner Program where they worked under the county's commissioners. They worked on many of the DeKalb County initiatives and volunteered their time.

Commissioner Larry Johnson started an initiative called the College Trunk Event. Many of the neighborhood communities within DeKalb County put their resources together and they put together "care packages" which included gift cards, linens, school supplies and more. The kids who were part of the DeKalb Youth Commissioner program were recipients of this package.

Chase and Kainat were the only kids from Tucker High School.

Chase will be attending Temple University and was accepted into their Business School majoring in International Business and Kainat will be attending University of Georgia. Chase received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Alumni SCholarship and the Youth Entrepreneurs Georgia Educational Scholarship Award and a AP student at Tucker. Kainat was part of the IB program and an Honors Student at Tucker.
