Who IS Briarcliff?

We are a big residential area with several pockets of retail; some offices and even a little industrial business. The Atlanta Regional Commission tells us we’re 58% non-Hispanic white; 16% Black; 11% Asian: 8% Hispanic; and the rest a mix of combinations. But they also point out that those elements are very fluid in our area. People are coming in seemingly every day.

We have strong feelings about our community and its relationship with Emory and CDC. So many of our area’s citizens work and/or go to school there; so many use the health facilities; and so many of us are proud of them as neighbors. Throughout this area if one member of your household doesn’t work there, then probably one of your neighbors does. We consider them part of our DNA as a community.

We are anchored, north and south by two great Universities:  Mercer in the north, and Emory in the south.  And CDC has its headquarters in the south and a big presence in the north. This creates a great brain trust for a city. That group of professionals can be the intellectual base for ideas and executives in the new city. And they will just get better as time goes along. And not just the professors – students in Universities provide volunteer help to their communities, and help in studies of governmental options.
