An Open Letter to the AJC

I have a lot of respect for the AJC -- I used to work there a long time ago in a far away place. And I don't want to get too argumentative ("Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel").  But come on guys.

The AJC posted an article on their online system about the possibility of a moratorium on discussions of city creation. There's a follow up article on the Patch:  http://northdruidhills.patch.com/groups/question-of-the-day/p/headline_117a510d

I responded to that article, and am posting my comments below:

Perhaps you should let the "Politifact" people review your own statements before you publish them.

1. "A growing chorus" calling for slow down. My experience has been that the growing chorus has been asking to move forward, not backward.

2. The lobbying group for counties would prefer that nothing happen to reduce the power of counties. I may be mistaken, but I think that's what lobbying means. They're paid to get their point across. That proves what? It certainly proves you weren't very selective about your sources.

3. Lee May would prefer not to lose any of his power. This is news? Is it even a question? Well duh!

4. Individual cities are having growing pains and citizen dispute? Come on. How many former mayors of Sandy Springs, Peachtree Corners, Decatur or others are in jail or under indictment?

5. "you're still going to have problems", so you probably shouldn't do anything. What? Where did you find these people and these quotes?

6. The one clearly accurate statement was the quote of Mary Kay Woodworth. A moratorium push is an attempt to change the rules in the middle.
