Viewfinder: Power Soccer Premier Cup

Lucky Shoals hosted the wheelchair soccer match, one of the first competitive sports leagues for people with disabilities.

The United States Power Soccer Association held its 2011 Premier Conference Cup at Lucky Shoals Park on the Tucker-Norcross border this weekend. Hosted by Royalty Power Soccer from Lawrenceville, the tournament showcased the top ten teams of the country which include Georgia, California, Arizona, and Indiana.

USPSA developed the first competitive team sports for athletes with disabilities that include quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.

A soccer match designed for players in power wheelchairs, it is played in a regulation basketball court with two teams of four people. Using their wheelchairs, the players kick a 13-inch soccer ball around the court as they defend it from the other team.
