Tucker Sweeps Clarkston in Region 6-AAAAA Basketball

Tigers picked up a pair of wins on their home court this week.

High school basketball is well underway as schools prepare for the holiday break and Tucker picked up a pair of wins in Region 6-AAAAA action on its home court this week.

Davonte Fitzgerald hit for a game-high 19 points and Jabari Craig added 17 points and 12 rebounds on the way to a 70-45 victory in boys’ action. Fitzgerald hit for nine of his points in the first quarter including a pair of dunks and Craig added four points as the Tigers jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the opening frame.

The first points by Fitzgerald came on a dunk as guard Cameron Meyer found him flashing to the basket to get the Tigers (5-2 overall, 3-1 region) off to a big start. Fitzgerald’s steal and dunk on a fast break pushed the lead out to 16-2 before he finished off the quarter with an offensive rebound and stick back.

Clarkston, which had eight first quarter turnovers, managed just two points in the first period on a pair of free throws by Breland Storne. Meyer opened the second period with five quick points on the receiving end of a Fitzgerald pass and then driving for a basket and drawing a foul for an old fashioned three-point play.

Xavier Trammell broke the Angoras’ field goal drought with a step-back three-pointer with 6:53 to play in the half. Any thoughts of a comeback by the Angoras were ended when Tucker’s

Davonta Reynolds hit three consecutive three-pointers from the right wing to push the lead out to 25 at 37-12. The Tigers took a 39-14 lead at the break.

Craig took over in the second half after sitting most of the first half with two fouls as he scored 13 points and grabbed seven of his 12 rebounds as the Tigers continued to pull away. Orlando Little had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Clarkston (3-7 overall, 1-3 region).

Junior Erykah Davenport hit for nine of her 20 points in the first quarter and Naima Jackson added eight more as the Lady Tigers (6-0 overall, 4-0 region) held Clarkston scoreless in the opening period.

Jasmine Allen got Clarkston (1-6, 0-3) on the scoreboard by hitting one of two free throws to open the second quarter. Davenport reeled off six more points as Tucker would take a 31-1 lead into the half.
