Tucker Rolls Redan Raiders 54-7

370 first-half rushing yards propel Tigers.

Tucker (8-0) rolled to an easy victory Friday on Senior Night at Adams Stadium, beating Redan (2-6) handily, 54-7.

Tucker racked up 370 first-half rushing yards to jump out to a 54-0 lead. Jordan Landry led all rushers with 101 yards and a touchdown, making the most of his two carries.

The game was all but over after the first quarter. On the Raiders’ first drive of the game, Josh Dawson sacked Redan QB Monquavious Johnson on third down to force a punt, which the Tigers then blocked. After a holding penalty negated Dallas Rivers’ touchdown run on Tucker’s first play from scrimmage, Yusuf Minor put the Tigers out to an early lead with a 30-yard run.

Jacob Sealand intercepted Johnson on the Raiders’ next drive, setting up a 19-yard rushing score for Rondell Simons. The 12 points would prove to be all Tucker’s defense needed, as the unit again held its opponent to just one touchdown.

Redan’s only score of the game came in the fourth quarter, as Johnson found Tevin Isom open on the right side for a 31-yard touchdown.

Troy Howard took the bulk of the workload for Redan, carrying the ball 15 times for 40 yards. Johnson went 13-for-24 for 142 yards and a touchdown.

With the temperature dropping rapidly, the Tigers seemed determined to open the 50-point margin before half (meaning the clock would run the entirety of the second half), shooting for big plays and often converting; including an onside kick with 1:52 remaining in the first quarter. Tucker only punted the ball once, with one minute left in the third quarter.

Ten different players carried the ball for Tucker, and the Tigers put three different quarterbacks under center.

Tucker had three touchdowns called back due to penalties, robbing Rivers twice and QB Juwaan Williams once.

Redan’s band proved to provide more excitement than its football team, keeping the Raiders’ crowd cheering throughout the game despite the blowout in progress.

Dawson finished with two critical third-down sacks, and Gabriel Collins picked up a sack as well.

The game was the Tigers’ last home game, though they will return to Adams as Lakeside’s guests the final week of the regular season.
