Tucker Plays Lakeside This Friday

Region 2-AAAAAA play kicks off on Thursday night as the Druid Hills Red Devils travel to take on the No. 4 ranked Lovejoy Wildcats in a game set for 7 p.m.

Druid Hills (2-1) came within one victory of the state playoffs a year ago and must take on a Lovejoy squad that is the favorite to win the region in the first region game of the season for both teams. Lovejoy (3-1) is coming off a last minute 39-35 victory over East Coweta last week. The Red Devils did not play this past weekend and had an extra week to prepare for the Wildcats.


A key Region 6-AAAAA game is set for Panthersville Stadium on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. as the 2-2 Arabia Mountain Rams take on the 3-1 Martin Luther King Jr. Lions in a game both teams need to win to stay in the playoff hunt.

The Rams, 1-2 in the region, are coming off a thrilling 26-20 three-overtime victory against Miller Grove and need another win to move toward the program’s first ever state playoff berth. The Lions who dropped out of the Class AAAAA polls with their loss to Mays two weeks ago are fresh off a 46-7 region victory against North Atlanta. The Lions are 2-1 in the region and want to stay within a game of co-leaders Tucker, Stephenson and Mays.

In other Region 6-AAAAA action, No. 1 ranked Tucker (4-0) faces Lakeside (1-3) at Adams Stadium and No. 2 Stephenson (4-0) takes on rival Southwest DeKalb (1-3) at Hallford. Both games are set for 8:00 p.m. Tucker and Stephenson will clash in two weeks at Hallford in what could be a battle of the top two teams in Class AAAAA.

Towers (4-0) puts its undefeated season on the line against No. 9 ranked St. Pius in a Region 6-AAA opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m. as the Titans host at Avondale. Towers is coming off its third shutout of the season, a 32-0 win over Douglass, while St. Pius (3-1) is coming off a tough loss to Lovett over the weekend.
