Tucker Finishes Regular Season Undefeated

Tigers make quick work of Lakeside, prepare for playoffs.

With the top playoff seed already in hand, it would have been easy to forgive Tucker (10-0) for overlooking winless Lakeside (0-10) and putting up a less entertaining performance than usual. The Tigers, however, looked like they still had something to prove.

Jacob Sealand recorded a sack on the third play from scrimmage to set the tone, and Terrell Simmons and Austin Benton each returned a first-quarter interception for touchdown, as Tucker’s defense again held its opponent to just one touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Tigers’ offense seemed determined to remind everyone just how dangerous this team can be, scoring on its first three plays from scrimmage in a span of 4:32. Dallas Rivers, Jordan Landry and Yusuf Minor accounted for the rushing touchdowns of 66, 48 and 80 yards, respectively. The Tigers’ first two scores were separated only by 10 seconds and a Lewis Makor onside kick. Juwaan Williams also posted a quick score on his first rush of the game, a 35-yard keeper one play after Lakeside failed to execute a fake punt.

Marqeeye Biggs and Dominic Sanders each scored on special teams. Biggs picked up a 76-yard punt return in the second quarter, and Sanders returned the opening kick of the second half 86 yards for the score. Sanders also played a little more than half the game under center after Williams was pulled along with many of the other starters when Tucker took a 51-point second-quarter lead.

Tucker helped itself in all phases of the game by committing far fewer penalties than in recent weeks.

All of Tucker’s offense came on the ground, as Williams attempted no passes.

The Tigers played their second consecutive game without Joshua Dawson, a major contributor on both sides of the ball.

Final score: 57-7.
