UPDATE: Tucker Cruises Past Carver 77-33

This update includes more scoring details.

Two themes are emerging in Tucker’s 2011 campaign: First, no two games feature the same stars for the Tigers; and second, Tucker wins. Tucker moved to 3-0 on the season after jumping all over Carver-Atlanta early and often to run away with the victory.

QB Juwaan Williams and RB Dallas Rivers ran wild on offense for the Tigers, while Baron Poole had a breakout day on defense.

Tucker scored first for the third time in three games. After holding Carver to three and out on the first possession of the game, the Tigers took the ball 57 yards in 3:22, highlighted by Rivers’ 23-yard run into Carver territory, and capped off by Williams’ 16-yard keeper for the score.

The Tigers then proceeded to pile on the points, capitalizing on turnovers and completely overwhelming Carver, jumping out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter.

Poole had a giant day on Defense for Tucker, showing up on the radar in the second quarter when he deflected a pass at the goal line, then collected it in the end zone for the pick-six. Seemingly emboldened by this success, Poole spent the rest of the night making life difficult for anyone trying to get out of the Panthers’ backfield. He was not the only defender to show up on the scoreboard, however, as Austin Benton and Charles Bush both returned fumbles for touchdowns. Sancharles Zachery was not fortunate enough to collect a score, but he was probably the most active defender, collecting a number of big tackles at the line of scrimmage, often times to prevent runners from turning the corner. Tucker’s speed and awareness on defense again left the opposing offense flustered. The fact that Carver was able to put up 33 points is a testament to raw athletic ability (and maybe slightly looser play from a team that turned the game into a laugher in the first 10 minutes).

The Panthers were not completely hapless, getting big gains from their skill positions and on special teams. Tucker’s onslaught, however, aided by Carver's own turnovers, created far too large a hole for the Panthers to climb out.

The Tigers already had their second team in on offense at the start of the second half, enjoying a 44-point lead. Dominic Sanders took over for Williams at quarterback, and Blair Lampkin took the majority of the carries for the Tigers’ backs down the stretch.

Update:

The Tigers had a number of stat-padding plays in the game. A first quarter 83-yard TD pass from Williams to Rivers took the honor of longest play, though Yusuf Minor’s kickoff return TD in the second quarter came just a yard shy at 82. Williams rushed for two scores and passed for two more. Rivers and Minor each found paydirt twice, Rivers getting his second score with a 57-yard run in the second, and Minor following up his kickoff return with an 18-yard run just 1:37 later. Jordan Landry got on the board with a 36-yard TD reception in the second quarter, and sophomore Devin Towns collected his first score of the season with a 60-yard TD run, also in the second.
