Region Play Starts for Ranked DeKalb Teams

A preview of the third week's schedule in high school football.

Tucker, Stephenson and Martin Luther King Jr. put their Class AAAAA rankings on the line as they open Region 6-AAAAA high school football action this weekend.

The No. 2 ranked Tucker Tigers (1-0) host North Atlanta (0-1) after a week off following their 51-12 win over Cedar Grove to open the season. North Atlanta is coming off a 26-13 loss to Stone Mountain in its season opener this past weekend at Avondale. The Friday game at Adams Stadium is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff.


The Stephenson Jaguars (1-0) knocked off highly touted Norland of Miami, Florida 29-12 in their season opener put their No.3 ranking on the line against the 1-0 Arabia Mountain Rams to open region play. The Rams knocked off Clarkston 40-7 in their season opener two weeks ago and are coming off an open date. The two line up on Friday in a 7:30 p.m. game at Panthersville.

The No. 5 ranked M.L. King Lions (1-0) looked impressive in a 41-15 rout of Blanche Ely (1-1) of Pompano, Florida on Saturday and have a short week to recover before taking on DeKalb County rival Southwest DeKalb in a game scheduled for 8 p.m. at Hallford Stadium on Friday. The Panthers dropped a
17-10 decision to Pebblebrook on Friday at Hallford to fall to 0-1 on the
season.

Chamblee and Druid Hills meet at 8 p.m. at North DeKalb Stadium on Friday in a battle of DeKalb County teams who won their season openers this past weekend. Chamblee won a 28-0 decision over rival Dunwoody, while the Red Devils took care of Clarkston 47-13.

Saturday night in DeKalb has three teams trying to improve to 2-0 on the season with McNair (1-0) taking on Columbia (0-1) in a 5:15 p.m. game at Panthersville. McNair won a 28-7 decision over Osborne in its opener while Columbia saw a potential tying score called back in the final seconds of its 20-12 loss to Cedar Grove.

Miller Grove heads into Region 6-AAAAA play at 1-0 following its 20-8 win over Lithonia and takes on Mays (0-1), a 20-19 loser to Carver-Atlanta, in the 8 p.m. game at Panthersville.

Towers (1-0) tries for a 2-0 start of its own after its 13-0 win over Maynard Jackson last weekend. The Titans face a South Atlanta team which dropped its opener to Lithonia 36-0 in a 7:30 p.m. game at Avondale.
