Local Kids Get Free Introduction to Golf

The kids are in a Tucker Rec Center program and will play at the Stone Mountain Park golf course.

Some local children are being introduced to golf through a free week-long clinic that will be held at the Stone Mountain Park course, beginning Wednesday, July 3.

The youngsters, ranging in age from 8-13, are part of Answers Services, an afterschool program at the Tucker Recreational Center providing one-on-one academic tutoring and future educational planning.

The Hook-A-Kid-On-Golf Introductory Tee Level is one of more than 250 clinics happening nationwide this summer, as well as in several countries around the world. It's part of an ongoing effort to get children involved in a game that is typically beyond reach because of cost, lack of course availability, and other obstacles.

The clinic, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, features instruction on driving, irons, chipping and putting. There will also be presentations on golf course maintenance, rules and etiquette of the game, and alcohol and drug awareness.

Every child who participates gets a set of golf clubs and a bag, hat, polo shirt and golf balls.
