Juwaan Williams Visits Georgia Tech Tonight

Williams makes a return trip to Yellow Jackets turf for the spring game.

Georgia Tech is hosting its spring game tonight, featuring some top football recruiting prospects, and of the Tucker Tigers state championship team will be one of them.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Williams has Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt as his co-leaders and that he visited Florida State last weekend.

"I really don’t have a number one,” Williams told the AJC.

Tonight's visit with the Yellow Jackets will be his first since receiving an offer from coach Paul Johnson in February. Williams has a total of 18 early offers, the AJC reported, including Florida State, South Carolina and Kentucky, but Georgia Tech is the only one who wants him as quarterback.

"Georgia Tech told me if I come in as a freshman and can’t [get playing time] at quarterback, that I can play something else to help the team out," he said, "so playing quarterback isn’t really going to decide what college I want to go to because only one college is recruiting me at quarterback. That wouldn’t be fair to the other schools that aren’t recruiting me at quarterback.”

Williams said he may prefer to play wide receiver over quarterback in college.

“There are a lot of similarities between my offense at Tucker and the one at Georgia Tech, but I really don’t know how exactly I would fit into Georgia Tech’s system if I played quarterback there. It may take three years to learn everything they’re doing."

"In my system at Tucker, the wide receivers are skilled linemen," Williams said. “Wide receiver just feels more comfortable to me.”

But there are other elements that may sway him towards Georgia Tech. “It would give me the opportunity to stay close to home. I could live off campus, and make it to and from home if I want. It would give me a sense of being right in my backyard. All my friends and family could come see me play every day at practice and at the games. I won’t get homesick. It would help me grow as a man because I already have a solid foundation in place [with family support] at Tucker, and I’d still be close to them.”

Tonight's game starts at 7:45 p.m.
